heyyo im a new member to the forums but ive been reading posts here for many months I just now finally decided to create a account since ive been having numerous questions and I honestly need some help anyways as the post title states this post is about interior illumination issues those issues being the rear window switches neither of them illuminate for some reason?? whats even stranger is originally when we first got the car they not only worked but also illuminated nice and bright too so did the drivers door lock (which also stopped illuminating however its still completely functional) anyways one day not too long ago I noticed both window switches had stopped illuminating entirely and at the same time both lost illumination but again they were still entirely functional and even though I found it suspicious both stopped illuminating around the same time I replaced both window switches with brand new original ones hoping this would solve the darkened rear with no nighttime illumination but no the new window switches also do not illuminate so now im lost could it be the BCM causing this or something?? it has to be something electrical cause its really weird how both stopped working at the same time (sorry for the long post I just wanna be as in depth as possible) oh and if you are wondering its a 2010 malibu

Gen7 rear window switches are not illuminated. I've owned a 2009 2LT and two 2011 LTZs and none of them were illuminated. I just went out in the dark to confirm, just in case I had missed seeing them on the rear doors.

If yours were illuminated, then either someone modified the car, it was a factory fluke, or I got 3 copies that were never finished.

thanks driven daily! wait but I have a question so only the buttons in the front illuminate then? like the door locks trunk release button and window switches illuminate on my car all of the front buttons illuminate well except for the driver side door lock which doesn't illuminate anymore since it burned out and as for the trunk release button it never has been illuminated since we got the car 5-6 years ago

On my 2011, the door handle cup and the 4 window switches are lit. The trunk button, door lock button, and mirror controls are not lit.

oh yeah I forgot to reply back to this specific message but you were completely right the rear window switches from factory do not illuminate the same goes for the trunk release button on the door as well that also does not illuminate well not from factory the only buttons/switches that do illuminate from factory is all of the front window switches the mirror switch (as in the mirror switch design from 2010-2012 malibus when the door panel design was changed) and I believe the door locks I know in my car the passenger side door lock has always illuminated since the car was first bought and I think the driver side one used to illuminate as well many years ago but then it got dimmer and dimmer and finally burned out and since has been dark since I havent tried to replace the driver side door lock (which would also test my guess of the door lock illumination being from factory)

As you can see from the picture, some of my 2011 driver's door switches are lighted and some are not.

Lighted:
  • all 4 window switches
  • door pull cup
Not Lighted:
  • trunk switch
  • lock-out switch for rear windows
  • mirror selector switch
  • mirror adjuster switch
  • door lock switch
