So I'm buying my malibu tonight its a 2010 ls and I read on the internet that there were some problems back in 2008, but I have not read anywhere that they have corrected it. I am always sick of changing CD's and I've wanted an iPod ready stereo to hook my iPhone up to. Does anyone know if they have fixed the problem or if there is something specific that causes the problems that I can avoid?

EDIT: Forgot to say that it still has the stock radio and I am not putting a new one in for a while.

The problems you heard with Ipod compatibility is related to the USB Port. Since you have the stock radio, you won't have the USB Port - that's part of the premium radio package. If you use the Auxiliary Input Jack that's included with your radio, you shouldn't have any problems using the IPhone. The owner's manual recommends turning the volume up all the way on the Iphone, then make volume adjustments using the car's volume control. The 1/8 inch jack in the lower right of the radio is the Aux Input. You will just need a 1/8 inch cable that runs between your Iphone and the Input Port. It should work fine. Let us know.

Yep, just bought an aux cable at walmart for $10 bucks and it works great on my iPhone. Thanks guys!
That's good news. As I mentioned previously, it's the USB Port that has compatibility issues with certain Iphones. The owner's manual recommends using the Auxiliary Input Port if this problem arises. That's why I knew you would be okay.

I have the USB Port and I only use a memory stick in that port.

Awsome, thanks again.

I have another quick question for you if you can answer it. If I wanted to get a system installed would I need to switch out my stock radio for a custom one? Or could they just hook up the sub/amp to my new one?

And let me tell you, I honestly do not know the first thing about installing parts on vehicles. It is way better for me to just hand over the cash and let someone else take care of it haha.

Sure can, you just need a line level converter. I have a powered sub hooked up to my stock stereo.

I don't have an Ipod or MP3 player. I may get one though. For now, I just use a memory stick in the USB Port.

Does anyone know the difference between using an Ipod in the USB Port and the Auxiliary Port? Does the USB Port give you more options?

USB Port allows you to control more. If it's an mp3 player you can select playlist, artists, etc. With either, you can use the fwd/rwd through the tracks with the cars audio controls. You also get the mp3's data displayed on the HU. Pretty sure that none of these features work on the aux since they usually don't transfer data back and forth.

To me all of that, using my steering wheel controls, and charging my phones is worth a lot.

I tapped my amp into the stereo speakers from my rear speakers and then just put my subs on low pass running a stock head unit on my 2010 1LT. Sounds great and no problems. I also have a new i Phone 4 S and listen to music and watch football on it through my radio (ya not safe sometimes) but everything works great no problems.
