I just bought mine, but now am reading about lots of brake problems, tranny problems, body problems, typical GM stuff.

I bought this car based on research and reviews. Don't get me wrong, I like the car a lot.
But I'm wondering if I should have bit the bullet and gone with another make.

Those of you who have some miles, what would you do if given the chance to do it over? Are we going to find out the hard way that this wasn't the leap we were "promised" by everyone?

If the items you mentioned are 'typical GM stuff' as you put it, then you knew that this would show up for some owners.
There is not one vehicle make/model on the road that hasn't had a hiccup here or there.

I am happy with the car. I myself have had to bring my vehicle in for minor things, but as long as the customer service is great and making it right, I'll continue to praise my purchase.

If i had to do it again I wouldnt' change anything, and I doubt very much that what you mentioned will ever happen.

I had an early fleet model that I bought used with 16k miles... '08 ls... immediately had a couple of tiny issues like the brake pedal not releasing all the way so the light would stay on and the turn signal stalk not flipping off after a soft right hand turn... got those issues worked out and immediately the malibu became the best car I've ever owned. We bought an '08 Saturn Vue at the same time as the 'bu and while that's a great car too, the 'bu is something I actually long to drive more often... I've started to hate my 4 minute commute to work because I don't get enough time in it.

So to answer your question? Absolutely, and when the 2012 Malibu's come out, I plan on trading my Vue in to get one of those :)

Mine is almost 3 months old and its perfect...are you having problems that's worrying you? You have a 3 year bumper to bumper 36,000 mile and 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty...sleep well tonight!

Guys - I'm not bashing the car. Other than the swirl marks from the crappy dealer wash jobs I have no complaints.
I simply see some issues popping up and asked the question for conversation's sake. I like the car a lot. It looks great and is very comfortable for our family.

When I said "typical GM" you know what I meant. I know that all cars will have some little things here and there.

I've owned eight cars in my life and this is my first GM (Ford, Izuzu, Ford again, Saab x 2, then most recently Toyota).

All of them had their share of "things" yes even mighty Toyota (it was a Tundra).

I'm very happy with my car so far, after 10 months of ownership and 13,000 miles.

Isuzu once and Saab twice? Technically its your 4th GM vehicle.

I've had a number of gm cars and trucks in my 46 years and have to say that this one is the best hands down of all of them. At first it had it's issues, The ISS needed to be re lubed and the purge solenoid was bad and was replaced. All under warranty. All cars regardless of make will have some issues. I'm at 18,000 miles now and couldn't be happier!!!!! The car has been as solid as the day i drove it of the lot. Not a squeak or rattle any where. Love the V6 and 6 speed tranny. I have never wished that i had bought another car in this class. I Love this car!

I love the car , never heard of tranny issues yet , i hope i don't experience it at all haha.
I have had minor issues with the car and the list goes as:
- Driver seat is broke underneath , cushion is falling out ( they replaced the whole seat cover and underneath etc.)
- Now driver seat back part that has the compartment is falling off ( part is in , apt made for monday to get fixed )
- Passenger side roof weather strip is coming off ( ordered a new one )
- Went in for brakes squeaking couple months after I got it ( they checked it and nothing wrong cleaned it and was fine)
- Recently my brakes are sqeaking again , and by squeaking I don't mean every so ofter , every stop hard or slow it squeaks the whole way so going to get that checked this week I hope.

There all minor things with the car and just a hassle of bringing it in when you have work everymorning and Im at work before they open and they close before Im done , but great service for sure Im thinking on trading for a truck though , maybe not a 100% sure.

Please direct me to any vehicle in production that has never had any brake problems, transmission problems, whatever.

Do I need to remind some of you that this was JD Power and Associate's Best Midsize Sedan in Initial Quality?

Typical GM stuff. Whatever.

This doesn't need to turn into a fanboy defense session. I simply asked a question of current owners with some miles on their rides. I wasn't attacking GM or Chevrolet. Heck, I am a Malibu owner.

Every brand has a reputation for being less than stellar in certain areas. Do a search on GM and brakes, Dodge rear ends, etc.

Why can't you ask a question on a forum without the bashers and fanboys getting in a twist?

It's not so much intial quality Orion is looking at , its more so long term durability, like i've posted I haven't had many severe problems just enough for a car so new haha:D but it would suck when the warranty is gone the little repairs would be big repairs , but like everyone says and I agree there is no vehicles without fault and im thankful so far it's nothing major.

I too bought this car not only because I like the look, features, price, etc, but because it got good reviews... So, I was a little more than disheartened when I found 3 issues in less than two weeks of ownership. 2 were VERY minor easy fixes. One however, may lead to GM replacing the car or me filing on the Lemon Law... :( I've got my fingers crossed that it REALLY is the gas cap, because I really do like this car.

The root of the problem is this: internet.

With it you can learn about EVERY single thing that somebody else has go wrong in the car.

With that said, go to another cars forums. All cars have their problems and in this day and age but they are all pretty damn reliable.

Could you keep us updated on that one? Please.... but you would be surprized how often it is in fact the gas cap... (Told to me by a service advisor for my other ride, 06 Civic)
