That's what I keep telling myself, I got up erly this morning washed and waxed
my car cleaned up and headed to work. Well there are a set of rail road tracks that run down my street well after making that turn with having the 18" rims with the 50 series
Tires the rim cought the track so my not even a week old car has a mark now.
I just keep telling my self its just a car sorry but need to vent now I wish I never washed my car this morning. This will aggravate me for days.

Yes the more you try to keep them nice the faster you end up getting it damaged. Our first Malibu we had for almost a year without as much as a ding on it. We first tried to park in certain areas to avoid dings then gave up as the issues started with the car. Now the new one we have to start over with and I am not looking forward to it haha.

It's a shot in the dark but this morning I took a look at the rail road tracks and the road, well there is a good size gap going on so I called the city to complain and see if there is any thing that can be done ? I.did talk to someone wich was pretty nice abought it he was going to make some calls and see if.it would.be the railroad that would be responsible or the city?

Usually if its the cities problem they will take care of it but it will be like pulling teeth and take some time and a bunch of phone calls.

If it is bad enough (and you complain enough) the city may step in and do something about it... good luck though.

I always kept my Cobalt spotless... washed every week and waxed regularly with only the highest quality products, parked it far away from everything in lots. IMO it was nicer on the day I traded it than it was on the day I took delivery.

With this one, I've decided that I just don't care. Our apartment complex does not allow car washing and there are big ditches, holes, and curbs all over the city. I scrape the front and back bumpers all the time just trying to drive around. Apparently SLC is just one of those places that isn't nice to cars. I've decided that when it comes time to trade in I am going to get either a Jeep or a Full Size pickup, something you can beat the snot out of and it won't matter a bit.

Where is the mark? Is it on the wheels? I had a similar thing happen when my car was a week old. They were doing road work in my area and I must have caught the edge of a sewer plate. Of course, they didn't tar around the plate good enough. I noticed a little curb rash on the very edge of the wheel. But there is a complaint that I've had about the new LT2 rims. There's a band that runs around the rim that sticks out about 2 inches further than the tire. So the tire does not protect this band. I have to be extra careful not to park too close to a curb, etc. I don't believe the other Malibu models have this flaw in the wheel.

Anyway, as you said, it is just a car and it's almost impossible to keep it 100% perfect. But one little mark here and there won't take away from the overall beauty of the car.

Well today I did talk to the railroad and they emailed me a claim form and will process it right away, and I thought I was going to have to live with a damaged rim ?

Do you have an LT2? That lip is really a design flaw. When I first saw it, I thought the wheels weren't mounted correctly. Then, I realized it was part of the design. It's very vulnerable to damage. The tire should protect the edge of the rim to some degree. With this lip, the tire affords you no protection. I have to be super careful not to graze a curb. This lip will definitely be damaged if you're not careful. From what I see, this extended lip is only on the 2010 LT2 wheels. It looks flush with the tire on other models.

I really like the new LT2 Chrometec Wheels, but I don't like that I have to be super careful so this lip doesn't get damaged. I will try to take a picture of this and upload so everyone can see what I'm talking about.
