Laser on Car?

2517 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Truitt
Have a 09 2lt and have a radar detector installed and friend has same radar detector in other truck. When I blow the horn the laser detection goes off. I am wondering if there is a laser projection maybe tied in with horn and stability control that goes off to detect what is in front or how far? Every time the detector shows laser???

I haven't tried my radar detector in my Malibu yet but in my 98 Dodge Avenger the same thing happens. I think it is just electrical noise introduced into the power from the horn causing the detector to go off. My detector is a Escort Passport 8500.
I do not know about that, but in my dad's 2005 Scion xB with traction control his Cobra goes hay-wire calling for "Spectre" (RADAR detector jammer) band whenever he loses traction and the system activates.

I have not tried my (more up-to-date) Cobra in the Malibu except on point A to point B cruising down the interstate.
I too am running a Passport 8500, my friends Passport----in another vehicle goes off when parked NEXT to me. Got to be something to the car emitting Laser on explanable reason?
Does the RADAR detector notify you of a certain band of frequencies (Such as K, Ka, POP, EVL, and so forth.), or does it just beep and go insane?

RADAR and the similar LIDAR and other technologies used by emergency vehicles today use radio waves at certain frequencies to either send a signal or bounce off of an object and return signal (the latter being how RADAR works to track your speed). Could it be that the Malibu's horn system emits a radio wave similar in frequency to those used by emergency vehicles?

Or, better yet, could the Malibu's horn system jam an incoming frequency?

Alright, here's an experiment (If you are ages 16-64, I would not recommend this):

Drive by your local highway patrol office when a cruiser is sitting outside. Call 911 and alert them of a reckless driver speeding in a [insert your vehicle's color] Honda Accord down the very street the office is.

When you come within view of the office, blow your horn and keep it going until you can no longer see the office in your rearview mirror.

Slow down to the speed limit and await your results.

If you see blue lights chasing an old couple in an Accord (which just so happen to be driving to the Honda dealership for warranty issues) then you can assume either A) You just tricked a government law enforcement officer or B) The horn system is a RADAR jammer.

If you see blue lights in your rear view mirror and they are actually after you, then either A) They are trying to alert you that your Audi has a broken horn and needs to be serviced or B) You're SOL.

Wow...that was a tangent.

Gotta love the thought process there - THANKS!!

Used to be.... you could buy/build actual jamming devices which, of course, ARE illegal.
If there is ANY actual connection here, not coincidence, I'm sure MANY people would be VERY INTERESTED!

Damn - the secret is out...........
LOL Awesome

man, that's hilarious ! :D

so...in the best case scenario where your horn is a jammer....every time you drive in the vicinity of a police vehicle you honk like crazy....interesting idea :D

oh, wait, I forgot that you can tell the officer who is about to write you a ticket for excessive noise that the horn you Audi broke and you are driving to the dealer to fix it :D
then, of course, when the cop sees the bowtie on the car and decides to search your car for illegal drugs you can tell him that you just found that illegal firearm under your seat and that you were driving to police to drop it off....after getting the horn fixed in your AUDI

Exactly.

I am so glad people on this forum have some intelligence on how to deal with authorities :D
