Got a 2008 Malibu about a month or two ago. It's been good to me for the most part, except the driver's side speaker went out. I have my mechanic friend pull the door panel and take a look around, and he can't find the break in the wire and tells me I'll have to come back another time when he can start pulling the thing apart and figure out where the break in the wire is. Puts the door panel back on and I'm on my way.

Cue today, the first rainy day of the year. I get in my car this morning and there's a couple of spots of water on the seat, but I don't think anything of it. Go to work, get out, open the door and I notice there's a nice little bit of water running down the back edge of the door (right after the panel), with a tiny bit at the bottom of the Chevrolet logo. I take a look at the weatherstrip (which is a really odd setup in this car BTW) and everything looks fine. I notice I can hear a bit of air coming from around the door though.

Any idea why this is happening, and how to fix it? The door panel went back on with all of its clips engaging, plus I don't know if it was like that beforehand because this is the first time it has rained this year. The leak seems to be right around where the power mirror controls are.

Snakester,

I have read your post about your speaker and now the leak that you are experiencing. It is good to read that you have friend that is a mechanic. For clarification, did you notice the “spots of water” at any time before you posted on the forum?

Since posting your situation on here yesterday, have you been able to talk with your mechanic about this? Have you consulted a General Motors dealership tech for a second opinion about the speaker and the water spots?

I had my friend take another look at it. He said that the weather strip was a little bit off of the area it was supposed to be on, so he pushed it back and that has stopped the water from actually breaching into the car. It still isn't a perfect seal, as a tiny bit of water still will get in, but not make it into the car. It's a good enough solution until I can afford to take it to a Chevy shop and have them look at that and the problem with the speaker. The car is outside of the bumper to bumper so any repairs will have to come out of pocket.

I didn't notice any water spotting in the car before this, but this was the first rain we had of the season and I got the car about 2 months ago. It was keeping melting snow out before though.
