I've searched all over but I haven't been able to see if anyone makes a limited slip or posi for out cars. I could of swore I found a website a while ago that was specialized in a a lot of parts for Malibu's they had ported and polished heads and stuff like that but I can't remember the website.

Update: I just found it remembered I saw a Malibu on cardomain that was the guinea pig. The website is MPracing.org in case anyone wants to know. They have performance parts for our cars.

No luck yet eh ?
And it's likely that you won't ever have any luck.

With the "differential" being a part of the transmission on a FWD car, making a change of that magnitude would require a different transmission.

With all of the electronic integration between the transmission and engine, that just ain't gonna happen.

The industry's solution is "traction control".......but it's not the same.

You can get LSD's for FWD cars, Quaife makes them for a lot of makes, but none for Chevy. A lot of my buddies in the VW community have put LSD's in their FWD Golfs, etc.

Here is what Quaife currently imports:
OK, more than I needed to know but the OP may find it interesting.

About a grand for the parts........and another grand or so to get it installed.

Can't tell about the year models on many but some end with 2000.

If you could convince the Europeans/Asians to start racing a lot of late model Malibu's on road courses, maybe you woud have a chance of getting a LSD made.

Alas, the Bu is an over-weight "pig" for things like that. :(

Yeah, my VW buddies were trying to convince me to take part in the clubs track and AutoX days we have. I almost did it for the comedy of it. But it does need suspension work before any fun like that can happen. As in mine is worn.
anyway, before I get too OT...

There's links out there to swap in the Grand Prix torsion arms in the back.

There's an article on another forum on using the solid aluminum 1999 Grand Am LCAs in the front with poly bushings.

There's at least one article and posting on upgrading the back brakes to Alero/Grand Am discs.

There's some live in the old lady yet :D:D

@RalphP,
Since I have a Gen7 I guess none of the suspension fits? I've never been on a dedicated road course but it would be interesting to try it. Even if I never do I'd like mine to handle better and stronger or better components would be a good step in that direction. I'd like to replace my plastic (WTF???) sway bar link with an all-metal type that uses Heim joints and are adjustable, and maybe increase the size of both front and rear bars in an effort to reduce body roll but keep the suspension relatively comfortable.

Got any ideas or suggestions?

DD - nope, no suggestions. Unless there's beefier parts under the G6(?) and Aura (?) sister cars.

Or others based on the same platform.

Yah, those are Gen5 mods. The OP was Gen5, so those are valid ideas for him/her. Shucks, I've got the discs on the back of MY Malibu - and yes, it does stop quicker (the back now goes into ABS stutter on full braking, instead of just the front ... ) Haven't done the others, but there's a yard nearby that has two Grand Ams with the aluminum castings, it's on my list to grab both pairs and rebuild them. I'm looking at the torsion rods, but since there's a shoulder washer that needs to be made, I'm not in a big rush for that one. Plus I'll probably order new rods instead of getting them out of the boneyard.

But for the Gen7 - may be worth finding a nice GM parts man and crawling through the parts manual to see if, say, there's a Caddy sway bar end link that will work.

The daughter-in-law's Taurus was plastic for the end links, but we put new Moog metal ones in during ITS suspension rebuild. Next upgrade is to add the missing rear anti sway bar to her car, since the Quick Struts have the mount for the end link.
