Where exactly are the factory subs located on the 08 LTZs? Does anyone have pictures?

Amp and Speakers are in the back deck. The back deck's are 2 way style speakers, Kind of Mid/Sub combo thing.

Is there any way to tell from the top if you have them?

If you take off the back panel you can see the small amp and the dual cone speakers but not without doing that I dont believe.. I have a picture on my home computer I can post up later with what the back deck looks like with the trim removed..

You may be able to look from within the trunk if you remove the shrouding but im not 100% sure
