The plastic covering over the male half of my seat belt buckle on my 2012 Malibu broke and the spring and other parts flew apart. I have a used, intact (assembled) male part to replace but don't know how to disassemble without breaking the plastic covering. Please help.

Just unbolt the current socket and replace it with the other one.

BTW, the part with the springs and the opening is the female part. The male part is what's on the belt, hanging by the door.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. It is the "male part that is on the belt, hanging by the door" that is broken. The nylon seat belt itself cannot be routed through the male part of the replacement buckle (I obtained from salvage yard) It is too fat to route through. I think that male part must be disassembled somehow. Thanks again for responding!

Some buckles can be opened by loosening a couple screws. Otherwise, use a flathead screwdriver to force the buckle open. Exercise caution as you open the buckle, as springs and other buckle parts might fly free when you do this. Test the buckle after removing the foreign object.
