About ready to close on a great deal on a new 2010 LTZ, i am planning on towing this behind my motorhome, wondering how many have done this with theirs and any issue. the owners manual shows it being very simple to do.
should know Monday on the final numbers for the new LTZ.

Sorry, I didn't see this sooner.
We bought a 2009 Ltz w/4clyinder for a 'toad'. I installed the Blue Ox brackets so the towbar would be less visible. This along with the Readybrake surge brake has proven to be a very good setup.
The adapter plates require the better part of a day to install and having helper is good idea.
So far we have towed a couple of thousand miles with zero problems.
Just took the car in for first service and we had no issues at all for them to correct.
A few small dislikes with the car but they are going to be ok when we get used to it.

I had a 2011 Cruze LT1 and had a transmission failure 350 miles out. GM later said the Cruze was not towable with all 4 wheels on the ground. They traded me a new 2012 Malibu LT1.

Does any one tow the 2012 all 4 wheels down? Have you had any trouble?

I was looking through my paperwork and found the same notice about the Malibu being towable only on a dolly. I am getting confused because GM inferred the Malibu could be towed with all 4 down. Otherwise why did they make the trade!! Thanks!

The Cruze automatic trans is not dinghy tow capable but the Malibu is. In the owners manual under Recreational Vehicle Towing you'll see this statement.

When dinghy towing, the vehicle should be run at the beginning of each day and at each RV fuel stop for about five minutes. This will ensure proper lubrication of transmission components.

You also need to pull the IGN SENSOR fuse so you don't drain the battery.

My parents have a loaded 09 Saturn Aura XE, exact same thing as a Malibu LTZ but under the Saturn name. They tow it regularly behind their motorhome. I dont know what all mounting hardware they have used to tow it with, but I do know whatever they've used or done has caused the front bumper to become offset from the front of the car. It hasn't come off and I don't think it's likely to either, but the front bumper just doesn't look right anymore. It's slightly offset from the fenders and doesn't line up properly anymore.

The 2011 Cruze and 2012 Malibu have the same statement in their original Owners Manuals, under Recreation Towing. Which says they are flat towable and how to do it.

Each model (Cruze & Malibu) has a page replacement which says the cars are NOT flat towable. From this, I would expect that both models are now NOT flat towable.

As I said above I was told verbally that the new 2012 Malibu is flat towable and they gave me a new 2012 Malibu for the 2011 Cruze. The new page says differently. I have already installed the base plate and wiring on the new Malibu.

The 2011 Malibu may not have the page in its manual. I have heard that the 2011 and 2012 have different transmission models, but the 2011 Cruze and the 2012 Malibu have the same transmission model.

My question is: Has anybody towed or know of somebody who has towed the 2012 Malibu and did it work OK? Actual knowledge, not hearsay.

Thanks!!

Today, I received a call from my Chevrolet dealer who said that after contacting some higher up people at GM, the 2012 Malibus ARE flat towable and always have been. I am to get an official letter from GM verifying the warranty is in effect. Guess that is why I have found no one who has had a transmission failure when flat towing a Malibu.

Thanks for your inputs!
