FWIW, anyone reporting this should be posting pictures. Some owners have and that is potentially helpful. One time posts with no vehicle make/model/trim/year, no pictures, and no history aren't going to produce results. I don't see much happening either way but at least thorough reports gets some documentation and examples readily visible if someone does take legal action or GM observes for a program. Again unlikely but basic info is, well, basic.

My wonderful Malibu had the same problem as all of yours. Clear coat gone completely from the hood, roof and trunk. First noticed the swirling scratches and then a few months later the clear coat was completely gone and the paint started to go next.

It's a 2017 model. Swirls appeared in February of 2020.

Like all my cars it was hand washed by me only and kept in the garage most of the time. This is a real problem that GM knows about. I spoke to a manager at the Chevy dealership and he felt terrible and said it has to do with a different clear coat gm tried out that wasn't great for areas with high humidity ( I'm in Florida ). He tried really hard but GM wouldn't do anything for me.

I ended up getting it fixed at a body shop and now the car is good as new after I spent $660. Really unfair and depressing as this is the third GM car I've bought in my lifetime and it will be my last. The money for body shop didn't break the bank but I can't in could conscience support a company that doesn't stand by their product. I was told all the same things about gas station car washes and user error. It's the fault of GM and not their customer and they know this.

Good luck to the rest of you. As you know when you search for this problem on Google it brings you to forum. I believe we need the help of all Malibu / GM owners not just those affected to get GM to do right by us. I recommend everyone visiting the GM site and communicating to them about this problem wether they have it out not to bring proper attention to it.

I am having the same issue with my 2016 Chevy Malibu. Not only does my paint look bad I have had issues with this car since day 1. Now I am having issues with shift to park shift stick. I can’t imagine What will be next.

Just to be clear, this site is not owned, operated, or monitored by GM. Any action that anyone wishes to take will have to be done elsewhere.

We're just owners like yourself.
Any luck?? How do I get in on this lawsuit?

It's somewhere else, not here.

I get that. But maybe someone on here “Malibu owner” may have this information and could share it with all the others.
You should try Google. There are some cases pending on some other Chevys and Cadillacs. Perhaps if someone could supply some evidence to those attorneys they could expand the class. Like @DrivenDaily said, this isn't the place for that. We aren't GM, we aren't attorneys.

Unfortunately, while this thread could have been a nice place to organize photo and video documentation of paint new vs worn/damaged along with timeline, exact model/trim/color, etc, it ended up taking the low road. 90% of the posts are one and done with no info, no pics, no timeline, mostly just rants with random usage of caps. The few that did post a pic or two aren't helped by those not supplying any info or evidence.

My 2017 LT in silver had no problems at all. My 2018 Premier in cajun red has some pretty bad fade on top and i get little brown spots stuck in the soft clearcoat. Annoying but you only see it in certain light up close. Dark color obviously worse.

I have the same problem on my 2017 LT Malibu that I purchased about 2 years ago. I bought directly from the dealership, certified preowned with only 27,000 miles. I love the car. But now, my trunk, hood, and roof are peeling. And random scratches are starting to show up. I don’t know what to do.
