Hi everyone! I have a 2016 Malibu Premier. Does anyone know if it's bad to keep your shifter in "L," for manual shifting with the plus and minus on the shifter knob? Is this bad for your transmission or engine? I like using it because I can't control my car and turbo better. Thanks!

It is safe to do so.

Yours is a range selector, which limits the top gear based on your selection, but allows it to shift automatically from first up to your selection.

What ever you do. Do NOT cruise at 80mph and shift to L. The darn thing will not drop a gear. It drops 2 gears. Ask me how I know as it shoots to 6 grand twice by my foolish mistake. lol

I just learned something new. I was under the impression that moving it out of D would not cause it to shift down. What positions are available other than D?

I also learned something new. My 2016 doesn't work the way 2fast4all references. But I have the 6-speed not the 8-speed referenced by the OP of this discussion. Mine is the Range Select type.
