How often are you supposed to replace the cap O-Ring. I understand you can buy less expensive filters without the O-Ring.

My second question is in regards to the proper torque value for the oil pan drain plug. Does anyone know this value?

I replace the o-ring every oil change on my Cobalt and will do the same on the BU.

I replace mine every oil change, better safe than sorry. If the O-ring is on there for too long, it'll lose it's elasticity and form to the shape it's compressed in. You'll eventually get a leak and need to either replace the seal or torque the cap down more.

alot of the more expensive filters come with the o ring. I use delco so it comes with the filter

I know the napa gold filters come with the O-ring. They are made by Wix.
