Tarballs?
Gulf oil spill... you might want to check the news if you missed it. :D

To the OP: What did you have before you got the Malibu? Did you cross-shop the Malibu vs other cars? I am interested to hear thoughts on the vehicle from a non-GM owner.

Before the Malibu, I had a nissan altima, I looked at new nissan altimas, toyota camry/corolla, honda accord, and a few hyundai's......but I went down to chevy last to see what they had and liked the options that the malibu LT had for the price and liked the look of the body style, and nice incentives on top of that.

I like the look of Nissan's cars, and the power of the VQ is undeniable. I just don't understand their philosophy of making "sporty" vehicles when most everything comes with a crappy CVT now. I real 3-pedal manual is best... but I'll take a regular ol slushbox automatic over a CVT any day.

I've driven two cars with CVTs. An Audi A4 1.8T and a Dodge Caliber. The performance of both was so dismal it actually made me feel unsafe on the road. Push the gas, count to 3 while the transmission selects the correct ratio, then the car moves. It takes a drastic change in driving style to add a 3-second lead time to every move you make in traffic.

The performance of a traditional automatic isn't as instantaneous as a manual, but the delay is maybe a half a second, so that's acceptable to me. 3 seconds feels like an eternity when you are trying to do a lane-change at 60MPH.
