I just picked up my brand new Malibu yesterday. It has about 150 miles on it. I had to drive about an hour home (mostly highway, some hills) and took it pretty easy on the accelerator. But, I noticed that when I parked the car, there was a slight burning metallic smell. My boyfriend says this is normal for a new car and not to worry about it. But, we had the same experience the next day. Anyone else have this experience, and is it something I should just ignore? How long should we expect this to go on?

Thanks!

This is normal, mine still does it after 10 days and about 80 miles.

Was the smell inside or outside of the car? If it was outside of the car its probably the exhaust. Many auto makers coat the inside of the exhaust prior to install with a rust proofing oil, this is mainly because sometimes the pats can sit around for quite some time before install. When a new car is running the very high temperature of the exhaust will burn off this oil causing a very odd and sometimes strong smell.

Sure enough exhaust coating... Either it goes away or you will get used to it. :0)
