I think Malibus have pretty good handling. What are you comparing it to? I've driven the previous generation Malibu, the current generation Malibu, a Mazda 6, a Nissan Altima, a G6, a Taurus, and probably one or two others for 500+ miles. The Malibu has good handling compared to these cars.
Also, Car and Driver chose the 2008 Malibu as a "10 best" and commented that they thought the Malibu had good handling.
