I was just on Chevy's website, and I found that Red is no longer offered. Is the color done for the Generation 7 Malibu?

I love the color, that would be a stupid move on GM’s part if they had dropped the color! I was originally looking for a black Malibu but when I saw the Red Jewel Tint coat, I fell in love with that color!

The black became my second choice after seeing the red! I really like both colors but for some reason the red had got more of my attention! I like it a lot!

Now Just because I like this color on the Malibu does not mean I would pick it on another car. Some colors stick out and look good on one car while a different car or truck it my not! Just my opinion and experience when buying vehicles! Some will only buy one certain color, to me it depends on the car! Don’t know if that sounds weird or not?

I think this may be due to the Japanese supplier crisis. A lot of articles have mentioned how red and other "bright" metallic colors are experiencing shortages due to the Japanese paint manufacturers being shut down.

I believe this is temporary.

The online order guide says as of 3/28/11 that Red Jewel Tintcoat Metallic is "No longer available for the model year. Built out."

Don't know whether that means it will be back for the 2012 model year, but 2012 will be short production run anyways. The teaser shot of the 2013 model looks to be in Red Jewel Tintcoat or a very similar color.

What intrigued me is that the LaCrosse doesn't have it either, but other GM products do. Is it an isolated thing at Fairfax only?

The note in the LaCrosse order guide says "Built out for 2011 model year." Interestingly, I noticed that the guide for the 2012 Buick Enclave is up, and Red Jewel Tintcoat is being replaced by Crystal Red Tintcoat on the Enclave. So....who knows what will happen with the Malibu.

I assume you work for a dealer? And welcome the CMF, by the way! :)

I bought a Red Jewel Tintcoat LTZ in February. The dealer swapped from New Hampshire to Vermont. He had no trouble finding one. His dealership is small. When I went to pick it up I scored a $2.500 Presidents Day weekend incentive.

Slivermoss is a color that was discontinued in 2010, Im glad I bought my 09 when I did since I really still love this color w/ grey interior. I just hope they did'nt run into issues with this color like premature fading or peeling since it was only offered for 2 years. I've had my share of silver & black vehicles thru the years and wanted something different. I agree the red jewel is a beauty and I would think pretty popular.

My aunt has a "silver-moss" Aura with the tan interior. Looks pretty nice. I don't think that the problem pertains to quality issues, but to supply. Red Jewel is a sharp color on the Malibu. I almost got one myself, but then I saw a black one. :)

And lemnoc, they gave you $2,500.00 for Presidents Day? Wow!

My first car was called Garnet Red. It was a 1984 Dodge Charger. A little bit different than Red Jewel Tintcoat color wise. Hard to explain. I am back where I started with a bright red car. My first choice would be copper. Right now in my parking lot there is a copper Cavalier. In the old days my best friend had a 76 copper Trans Am. It was great cruising around in that beauty.

I agree 100%. I checked into the different colors and IMO, the Red Jewel Tintcoat is the nicest color. It's very rich looking and it's not a shocking red. It's more like a burgandy. Also, it's a special paint, so it's very shiny.

As a matter of fact, I was considering the LT1 and when I heard that they only offered the Red Jewel Tintcoat for the LT2 and LTZ, I definitely was getting an LT2.

It really is a great color. And it looks great with the Chrome Wheels. IMO, it brings out the great looks of the Malibu.

I find it hard to believe that they discontinued this color for 2011. Maybe they're going to change the color slightly for 2012, so they stopped offering it for 2011. I will have to check the Chevy Website to confirm this.

This is actually quite common for GM to change a particular color slightly. I had a '95 Eldo in Pearl Red. Great color. 2 years later, they discontinued the Pearl Red and changed it to Crimson Pearl or Crimson Red. It was a slight change in color, but I really didn't like it. It was a more shocking red than the Pearl Red was. So we will have to see if the Crystal Red Tintcoat is as nice as the Red Jewel Tintcoat.

At least they're keeping the Tintcoat paint. That really adds to the richness and shine. It's worth the extra $200 for the Tintcoat. I paid quite a bit more for the Pearl Red back in '95. It was either $500, or $1,000 extra.

My dealer has mailed me several Cruze brochures and they feature the Red Jewel Tintcoat on the front cover. So it must be a popular color.

IMO, if you have a good thing, why change it?

From what I understood, the color "Crystal Red Tintcoat" will replace "Red Jewel Tintcoat".

I am very happy I was able to get a Red Jewel Tintcoat LTZ in February. It has been flawless. I got a full spare tire and a matching aluminum wheel for it. I even tested my new jack with the wheel lock and other bolts. Everything went well. I just got back from a vacation. I got stuck with a Nissan Altima instead of the Impala. It was awful. The brake pedal was as big as a baseball card. It had this stupid push button start. I hope GM never uses that. I had such a hard time driving it the cops stopped me. I got no ticket because they dont like to scare away tourists.
I was happy to be home driving my LTZ and cranking the Bose system. Cleaned my interior . Good day for me.

They did offer the Red Jewel on the 1LT models because I purchased one in Ashland, KY in March of this year.

I think the RJT on the 1LT was only available with the Red Jewel Tintcoat premium package, and so was WDT.
