Hello, I have the 3.5L V-6 motor and we were driving along and the power steering quit and we got an alert on the pannel. I did some reading and found out this has an electric power sterring module???? Never herd if such a thing.

Question is can I replace it my self? I can work on cars and have a ton of tools. Local autoparts store whats $500 for the motor. That seams a little expensive. In your OP what else besides the motor needs to be replaced at this time.

Hope I gave enough info. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the help!

I thought all those electrical power steering units went on recall. I'd check to see if your particular model did.... And i believe the power steering module is located in the steering column housing... You have to remove the steering column... If you do it disconnect battery for at least 30 min (i like to be on the safe side) so your air bag don't deploy on you. Do not use any memory saving devices. Hard to explain it all on here without seeing pictures :( if you can try and pick up a chiltons or hayness manual it's sure to have it in there. Just find the steering column removal part. I can't imagine it not having the info you need in there.

Just got my '06 back from the dealer after replacing the steering column. I didn't lose the steering, but the dash info panel would flash "Power Steering" and tones would go off. Then after a few minutes it would go away. The dealer said there was a "Service Advisory" for this, NOT a recall. No cost to me to do it, but the service mgr. said if it was the module, that wasn't covered and I'd have to pay for it. Take it in and let the dealer check it out. Good luck.

i just bought a 2004 mailbu lt 3.5l v6. in the first week of having it, i heard a lot of noise coming from the front end. when in park i could turn the steering wheel and hear and feel a clunk in the front end. brought it back to the dealer that i got it from and it turned out that they had to replace the gears in the electronic steering and the steering column. It took them a few hours to get it done. i am also good with cars but this would have taken to long for me to do.. you can find all the parts that you need at http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php
hope this helps,,
