last night I went out to set up my onstar account and regardless what I hit (On Star Button or Phone Button) it muted the radio and just sat there with the phone icon on display but I never got the tone or voice. after about a minute the radio came back on.

As far as setting it up, I found it in the manual and it worked just fine, I had already set everything up over the weekend and it was working. I went back about during my lunch break and the phone part is working so Im not sure what was going on with it.. I did not have a chance to try the onstar but will do that later tonight

2 or 3 times in the past I was not able to connect to OnStar when trying to call for directions. The phone would show on the radio display but all I would hear was a beep every 15 to 20 seconds. I figured the satellites were in poor positions.

OnStar uses the Verizon cell phone network for communication not satellites. The only thing they use satellites for is to determine your location.

I knew the phone feature was through Verizon, but thought calls to OnStar were satellite. There are still a lot of places in this country where cell phones do not work. Hope we are not in one of those locations if we have an emergency.

I was told by an Onstar rep that if a Verizon Cell Tower is in range then it will use the Cell Tower. If there is no Cell Tower in range then it will use the Satellites.

The beep is indicating that you are waiting for an Onstar Rep to pickup, not that you are not in range.

I was thinking you heard it dial or something letting you know the call was going through.
One time I let it go for 5 minutes or so to see what happened, and nothing did. They all must has been in the can
