I just bought a 2011 malibu with remote start. Read about this onstar feature mylink only to find out its not available on the malibu.

I read some posts - from months ago, that said it was coming soon.

Anyone know anything more? Sounds like a really cool feature - id love to be able to remote start my car from the phone!

I have been monitoring for information on the version of this app for older vehicles on a couple of OnStar user forums and have seen nothing. I have seen a few people inquiring about the 2011 Malibu
.
They keep saying it will be out soon for almost 4 months now.

Since you have a 2011 model, you may want to checkout the MyChevrolet app. I know it is nothing when compared with the MyLink app but it has some features that sound useful. It won't work with my 2009 Malibu.

I was surprised that the 2011 Malibu was not in the original release of this app.

Is the 2011 Malibu even using the onstar generation 9 hardware? I cant seem to get an answer on this.

I have called OnStar 3 times, each time getting a different answer on if the Mylink app is going to work on my 2011 Malibu.

For a car touted as being a Consumer's Digest "Best Buy" 2 years, this lack of support is less than acceptable. Is the Malibu's system so different and difficult compared to the rest of their vehicles that it has to take this long to get the app working? I don't think so.

GM, are you listening?

Out of all of the Malibu Customers how many actually even know about the possibility of doing this and then actually wanting it enough to ask for it? I doubt it is high on the list of things Customer's ask for.

Eh, if they want to survive they'll have to start being creative, and execute well.

They're doing okay creatively, and executing poorly.
I agree, I don't think there taking the mylink development very seriously. Even if they do get it up and running for the Malibu there's no app for the Blackberry, which will still make it useless to alot of Malibu owners.

I've had My LTZ now for 2 weeks and would love to see the Mlink work as the dealer promised me it would. I hope GM is listening, I would settle if necasarry for a Limited version...

GM is saving the big tech updates for the 2012 eighth gen Malibu. That's why they've let the car kinda just collect dust for 2011. They're probably not too worried about supporting smart phone functions in a car that doesn't come with a full multimedia system.

I just wanted to assure you that OnStar is very aggressively working on making the 2011 Malibu compatible with MyLink and they expect validation "very soon". Please stay tuned to their Facebook page (facebook.com/onstar) and Twitter (@TheReal_OnStar) for further information about this release.

That sounds great, are you speaking from fact or something that an onstar advisor told you? I've spoken to them and they say it will be released in Q2
I've heard that before. I really hope it's coming and before my 6 months is up for I don't think I would continue with onstar without it or would i start it back up to get it if and when they ever get it working. They also told me to friend them on facebook because they post everything there first. You sound like the advisor I spoke to LOL;)

When I was last in the development lab a short while ago, the engineer I spoke with mentioned that they were paying special attention to the 2011 Malibu.

Side point, not meaning to hijack this thread, but I was at the dealer today and checked out the Cruze. It has a fold-down arm rest in the rear with 2 cup holders. Our Malibus don't and never have and yet our car is from the next size up class. How'd they "forget" to put an armrest in the back?

Thread resumes... ;)

Hahaha, that was an interesting oversight, but maybe it's more comfortable to sit in the middle without it! More obnoxious to me was the lack of "oh shit!" handles. I know I've made people reach a few times. : P

So have I. A buddy of mine routinely mentions the lack of one above his seat.

Here is the response I got from the OnStar adviser:

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail OnStar.

The Malibu is currently not available for the app because aspects of the vehicle architecture make it incompatible. Our engineers are working on finding ways around this, but it is not guaranteed that we will be able to make the current Malibu model compatible.

Please feel free to reply to this email if you have any other questions, call us at 1.888.4.ONSTAR (1.888.466.7827) or press your blue button.

Sincerely,

Rachel

Tried again yesterday to access my 2011 Malibu with MyLink... it shows up now!
All is not good though... the Remote screen only has Door Lock, Unlock and Horn and Lights activation buttons. No remote start... Other screens display info on Fuel, Oil Life, Mileage, Tire Pressures. But no remote start.

It has been confirmed by an OnStar representative on there Facebook page that the remote start function of MyLink will NEVER function on the Malibu or HHR due to hardware limitations.

All other MyLink functions will operate properly.
