Painted grilles

Hey, all!

Over the weekend I finally got my grilles painted and installed. I traded my LTZ grilles with another member, who sent me his black ones. Here are the steps I took:

All of the paint was Dupli-Color brand

Adhesion Promoter

Perfect Match paint, color BGM0509 Dark Cherry Met (94 WA9088) - 2 cans

Perfect Match clear coat finish

Saturday:
1. I cleaned all dust and dirt off of them (very little to start with!)
2. Sprayed a couple coats of adhesion promoter front and back
3. Within 10 minutes sprayed a couple coats on the back side of both grilles
4. Flipped them over and sprayed several light coats on the fronts
5. Set timer for 5 minutes and sprayed 2 light coats again
6. Checked finish, discovered a tiny bug on the front of one grille. Removed it and sprayed remainder of first can to cover it

Sunday:
Bought another can of same color and clear coat
7. Sprayed a couple light coats of color
8. Set timer to 5 minutes
9. Repeated 7 & 8 several more times until both grilles were "wet" looking
10. Sprayed a couple light coats of clear
11. Set timer for 5 minutes
12. Repeated 10 & 11 twice

Here's the outcome...

*******************************

Now, while I wasn't able to get the exact color, I wasn't worried about trying to. I took several cans out to the car and thought about them for quite a while. I finally decided on the lightest of the three.

Nice write-up and nice grill! Looks like it matches really well. I painted my grill to match a while ago to add the metallic the stock grill was missing and it really isn't even noticeable, except for being lighter in color. I think it may be due to the small surface area of the grill.

Any plans for the bow ties?
Looks good. Not sure mine would have the same affect since it is grey...

For the bowties I'm gonna leave them as-is. I like the gold color and it goes well with the red, plus I have the cocoa/cashmere interior and it compliments that as well.

However, I could be talked into thinking about PTM. Hmmm.......

Thanks for the kind words, both of y'all!

I see what you are talking about. I think now it may be too much red if you painted the bow ties, it breaks up the color some. I am jealous of that color, I want it so bad:D.

Maybe PTM the fog light trim? Just a thought.
Me Likey! Great job dude!

Thanks, guys!

Hey, look what I did with the same paint... :)

The difference is the angle of the flash. It isn't really that screaming red, but that sure does look nice. It's more like the darker one, but it's also nighttime here. Once I have it outside I think it'll look better.
