Picked up 2nd Gen7 Malibu

I've used info from this forum to troubleshoot my 2012 Malibu LT over the years. Appreciate all the knowledge and help. Bought it used in January 2014 with 31,000 miles on it. It now has 194,000 miles on it and still running strong.

Just recently I was searching Autotrader.com for a 2010-2012 Malibu for my youngest daughter and came upon this 2010 Malibu LT2 with only 18,600 miles on it. Single owner car that was garaged. This became my daily driver and the 2012 is my daughters! Basically a brand new 13 year old car.

Seems like both are pretty good finds. Welcome!
Check with a dealer to see if the Wave Plate was ever serviced under warranty on the 2010. It's possible that it is not affected by the iffy parts, but if it is, now is the time to plan.

Congratulations on the score! I'm almost jealous, but really happy that you found it and will take good care of it.

What engine is in each one? (Edit: I see that the 2010 is the 2.4L.)
Wave plate issue was in the 6-speed trans. Hopefully you have a 4-speed car. I took my old '09 2.4 to 220k miles and sold it running just fine with no drivetrain issues.

Wave plate issues weren't common in 2010. The big program (attached) covered 2007-2009 cars. Plus the wave plate issues were in the 6T70/6T75 so wouldn't impact a 2.4L Malibu at all since it uses the 6T40 in 2010.

Thanks for all the info....had me worried there for a moment.
2010 with 2.4L Ecotec 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic.
Where would I find confirmation that I have the 6T40 transmission? The RPO Sticker in the glove box? What code is it?

If it's the 6-speed, then it's the 6T40: "6" = 6-speed, "T"=transverse mount (for FWD), "40"=power/torque rating based on a chart at GM.

So, my 6T70 is rated for a higher output engine.

You can check the RPO code - it should be MH8. 87.9% sure MH8 is the code in 2010.
