Hey everyone...

I have this projector headlights and it have Halo ring and three LEDs... the plan is to simply changing the LEDs to green... I went to radio shack and found that 4 pin led for three LEDs and I tried to replace it... realized that it is a wedge not 4 pin led... (wrong one!) So I had been looking everywhere to find green LEDs for 3 LEDs and Halo... Here's the pic of my projector headlights:

and here's the links I found which are original replacement bulbs for my headlights but they don't have it in green... http://www.xtralights.com/replacement3ledbulbsforaftermarketheadlights.aspx
http://www.xtralights.com/replacementhaloangeleyeledbulbforaftermarketheadlights-whitesingle.aspx

So... everyone.... anyone could help me with finding green ones for my projector headlights??? Help would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS!!!

Seriously... no one knows where to find it or at least know how to change it?!
I kinda of wanted to have it green lights... it would look great on my car!
I hope you have lots of money to pay the traffic fees. And don't mind having your car impounded.

Green on the front is illegal in Louisiana.

http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=88269

Also, technically, blue dash lights (yah, the law isn't as specific as we could wish!) are illegal.

BTW - VERY informative reading at http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?folder=106

It could be illegal other places also - most of Louisiana's traffic law is federal law restated (since the feds can't actually regulate cars on the road, but the states do.)

I'd be VERY careful about mods that affect the legality of my car on the road. Now that THAT'S said - technically, HIDs are illegal, but I am NOT about to remove mine from the high beams until I get told to! <grins> That's also why I highly recommend staying away from the too-hot (too high a Kelvin rating) lights - a 12000K set of lights will get a LOT of unwanted attention from LEOs almost anywhere.

Yeah.... I just don't understand why a lot of new cars have HIDs while it's illegal! Why not they just go ahead and legalize HIDs while it's already in too many new cars?!
The Reason of this mod is because i saw like 5 of 2010 Camaros having Red Halo lights in their headlights and i got a chance to meet a guy who owned one with red halo lights and asked if it's legal and he said it's very legal (maybe because it's already part of factory standard in Camaros???) Anyway it kinda of inspires me to try to get green LED and green Halo rings....

I am actually surprised that it's illegal! I can understand undercar lights illegality because it is pretty distracting.... but come on! something like the mods i wanted is that illegal?! now that's ridiculous!

Nononononono.

The reason why HIDs are technically illegal in the Malibu is that it wasn't factory for it.

Also, technically, SilverStar halogens are illegal.

Hence my somewhat cavalier attitude towards THAT law.

Plus, there's always "Except as permitted elsewhere" and THAT one notes that factory installed is OK for almost all lights. But yah, technically, the Camaro owners could be ticketted - or even get their cars impounded! - due to the red on the front.

The reason why it's illegal is that green lights are reserved for emergency vehicles (not that any USE green) - same reason why RED is.

And read that section of the Louisiana code I linked to. It's somewhat surprising what is, and is NOT, legal (i.e., what they can use as a reason to pull you over - or what they can write a ticket for you on if the LEO is already pissed at you.)

HIDs are legal if they come equipped from the factory, and illegal if not. It's not because they're HIDs, it's because of how the housings are designed. If you put HIDs in a non-HID housing the light will blind oncoming drivers. They need to be in a specially designed housing with a projector lens that reshapes the light and prevents it from being a hazard.

Blue and red lights facing forward (didn't know about green!) are allowed only on emergency vehicles. Blue facing rearward the same. We are simply common citizens and have to keep our lights white or amber at the front, and red or amber facing the rear.

Hmm so it's alright if I can get HID since my projector headlights have angel eyes that could do that on HID?

I guess I will be leaving that LEDs and Halo lights the same... I just don't want cops to pull me over for that! Thank you for giving me that info! I never had a problem with cops and never got a ticket in my life! And I rather to keep that way!

(for those ppl who have red halo lights on camaros... I dunno why they have them on...) I am starting to see them more often now.... i am surprised they haven't gotten pulled over... And i saw one with green! grrrrr! I wish it's not that illegal and it's not that too bright though!

I was quoting Louisiana law there. Green might not be illegal where you live :p

But, since Arizen and I both live in Lousy-yanna, I figured quoting our local laws was not a bad idea.

The thing to keep in mind is that, even though it's illegal, it normally won't get a trooper or "county mounty" out of his/her car by itself, unless they're looking to profile a driver.

THAT said - if they stop you and just want to write a ticket, it gives them something right handy.

And meaning no offense, this IS the state that I got pulled over for speeding after being passed ... and the same LEO wadded up my insurance certificate and threw it on the dash, claiming he wanted a current one.

I pointed out that yes, it was July - a certificate good from April to October was certainly valid - and I got a nice ticket for 75 in a 55.

(Got that LEO back - took the insurance certificate, described what happened, including the truck that passed me right before the trooper turned around and pulled me over ... He ended up spending the winter doing traffic duty!)

Well that kinda of sucks... I guess I can just get the legal HID for my car later... I hope you won't have any more problems with them again! I am little bit surprised about how strict cops are around southern Louisiana... of course you are in northern area (arctic line lol) might be different than southern part... Like I said in earlier... I just moved in Louisiana from Arkansas... I don't know how they run things in here...
I don't think that it's that bad... considering that I had lived in east Tenn for three years and the cops there were brutal, even Virginia area too!

Another true story!

I had a 1963 Falcon Wagon, with the horribly gigantic 170cid engine and three-on-the-tree manual. As you can guess, this combo was NOT going to win any land speed records. With a tail wind, I could see 60. Couldn't go FASTER than, unless I was headed straight down a mountain, but at least I could SEE it.

Got stopped once for 77 in a 55. In the Falcon.

I showed up for the court hearing, and when the judge asked me how I pleaded, I said, "Let me make you an offer. The car is right outside. If you can get it up to 77, I'll GLADLY pay the ticket as long as I get documentation on it."

The judge came back 30 minutes later, dismissed my ticket, and cited the county mounty for contempt of court, false arrest, and ... well, I didn't hear the rest, I was hightailing it out the court ;)

Awesome story! that kinda of cracks me up! you are pretty clever as me! I did get pulled over like maybe five times... NEVER gotten a ticket! only one written warning! I have bunch of stories to tell you about it! (all of them in my wonderful ticket-evading Malibu!!)

I liked that story! The best thing about it is the fact that it's true. Good ploy on asking for documentation. My first car was a '66 Chevy II wagon, 230 cid, 1 bbl, 3 in the tree. Gutless like your Falcon, but point A to point B.

@arizen13
I think it'd be neat to hear your stories. If you do why not make them a new thread? Just expect that there will be others posting their stories as well, and some might be just for boasting, but oh well. Then RWP can add his in there, too.

Thanks guys! :)
