hello everyone just sitting here late at night wondering some things. ive owned a firebird for 6 years, and have become a gearhead in the process. owning a little 2.2 malibu now is quite boring, so i start to ponder.

Has anyone ever taken their 2.2 bu down the 1/4 mile?
(I plan to go next spring with my buddy just for the heck of it)

Has anyone ever had their 2.2 bu dyno'd just for the heck of it?
(If i ever found somewhere to do it dirt cheap just to play around i probably would)

Has anyone ever flowbenched the cylinder head just for fun?

(Follow up) Has anyone ever done port work on a cylinder head?

Has anyone ever done any kind of performance mods just for the heck of it?

I hope there is some input and discussion here, and that I am not the only one who has ever fallen into the hum drum of a 2.2 malibu and gotten bored. Dont get me wrong its a nice ride to get you from point a to point b which is why we bought it. As i said, just bored late at night wondering

I deliberately stayed away from the 2.2 as I always thought it was a bit small even for the Cavalier. I'd say if you got 17 or better in the 1/4 you'd be doing ok. The Cavalier is a smaller car and would be quicker.

And no, I haven't played with updating the engine as I use my cars for transportation, point a to point b.

we got the 2.2 strictly for the fact that it was affordable, low mileage, comfortable both in ride and the size, and gets good mpg...i know many people say more spunk for a mile or two a gallon worse perhaps but to me it doesnt matter with this car...the more mpg the better. am just curious if people have played around with them at all...maybe i will be the first idiot runnin a 2.2 malibu down the track haha.

as far as times i do expect it to hit low to mid 17's but i guess everyone will have to wait to find out haha

Enjoy it!!! That's what it is all about. My car I bought used with 8100 miles on it but it actually gets better mileage than the neighbors '07 with the 4 cylinder.

nice...of course that could all depend on type of driving such as if you do all hw and he/she does all city. I consistently get mid to high 24's and do straight city driving (bad traffic) no hw. i know i should but my wifes car gets much better mpgs (99 camry) so she drives that to school. also its got higher mileage (89xxx) so we try to keep the miles off the bu as its only got just under 53000 (that coupled with the fact that i like driving the bu much better than the camry)

I've been tempted to take my girls Malibu to the track and see what it does, but she's got the 3.9L SS.
