Let's share what replacement tire choices you have looked into for your "Bu" and if you have replaced them, with what make and type tire and why you chose them.

I currently have the god awful Ls2's OEM tires from goodyear and have a great deal of radial pull now at 20,000 miles. Even after having the alignment checked, which is dead on and rotating them every 6,000 miles, I still can't get rid of the pull. I am now determined to replace the LS2's with a good quality tire. Suggestions are very welcome.

My current choices are:

1. Toyo proxes 4. (Have heard and read in reviews nothing but good experiences with these tires, except that they don't wear long. 300)

2. Yokohama S Drive. (good tires, but god the price!)

3. Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Position ( nothing but good, but heard they wear fast.)

4. Eagle F1's all season. (Not impressed with goodyear at this point, so that's why they rank last on my list.)

Update...... Finally broke down and went with Yokohama Avid TRZ's in the same size 225/50/18 from Tire Rack for $ 450.00 including shipping and just got them installed today at NTB. What little i have drove on the Yoko's so far, I can tell you that it's night and day compared to the LS2's. Much,Much,MUCH better as far a handling, way better ride and very smooth. The car acts like a different car, the way it should have been from the day i drove it off the lot. After some miles, from time to time,I will report on how they are doing. Especially as we are now heading into the fall/winter months. All i can say right now is that i did the right thing and wished that i had the LS2's replaced from the beginning. VERY HAPPY!!!!!

Glad to hear, I hate the LS2's. I had them on my old G6 GTP too. Why they choose them I have no idea. When mine go, which might be some time since I just rolled 5000. I will go with a 245/45/18. I'd love to do a Pirelli, but not sure if they make anything. I was looking at the Goodyear GT's but not sure if I want Goodyears. So I'm still looking, but I have time. Keep us posted on you Yoko's.

I have 48,600 on the LS2's and they are still in good shape. I'll probably replace them at the end of the year. By then I'll be pushing 60k which is pretty good IMO.

Cause GM picked Goodyear as a premier supplier for a majority of their cars, Bridgestone supplies them some tires but the majority come from Goodyear. Personally I never like Goodyear tires, of te set I h tey were hard rough riding tires on a Camaro.

About the best riding tires out there are Michelins but they are a bit pricey, GM used them for years on Buick's and Cadillac's with little to complain about.

Well damn... The day after I posted on this thread we went out and noticed got a low tire warning. I aired up the tire and we went on our way. I checked the PSI monday morning and sure enough it was low so I aired it up and took it to the dealership.

I got a call about an hour after I dropped it off telling me that the tire had a soft spot and was actually leaking because the it was too thin in that area. The front tires were wearing unevenly and both needed to be replaced and they suggested a 4 wheel alignment.

So I decided to just replace all the tires have them do the alignment and flush the transmission. I went with the Goodyear LS2 because no one around here had 225/50 R18's and I needed them now. The dealer had a supplier near buy that carried them and i got them for $112.00 each. It's improtant to note here that discount tire could get the tires but the cheapest one they could get was $150.00 each.

Anyhow a new set of tires, alignment, and transmission flush for $830.00.

Discount sells them for like $108. A buddy just bought two this week from them.

Why did you get a transmission flush? This is something that's recommended around 50,000 miles.

I checked Discount tire, Sams club, Expert tire and a couple local guys and no one had 225/50R18 in stock. Discount could get the tires but didn't have them at thier warehouse meaning it would take 2 to 3 days and I needed them now. the only tires Discount could have for me that day where $150.00.

I have 49,100 miles on the car so that's why I went ahead with the transmission flush. I figure it's money well spent if for nothing more then the piece of mind.

So the OEM tires are good for 40-50 thousand miles.

For the 18" rims, I can definitely recommend Michelin Hydroedge as an improved replacement tire for the stock LS2. These ride nearly as smooth and quiet as the LS2 and seem to handle well. The Michelin is also being recommended by GM as a replacement tire for those having trouble with the LS2.

I first put Goodyear Assurance Tripletreads on when I dumped the LS2's and was dissappointed in the increased harshness and what felt like a loss of handling performance due to the tread feeling too squirmy. About the only improvement I could see with the Tripletread was better wet traction. Definitely would not recommend them for this car.

although it doesn't come in 18" sizes, goodyear assurance fuel max is the lrr tire fitted to the chevy volt. about 10% less fuel consumption.

i'm so disappointed with the malibu's understeer i'd recommend much more than just tires. i'd even go narrower tires out back, and/or more offset to narrow the track. if you just put stickier tires all around, you get the same understeer.
