Well recently Ive been doing alot of highway driving and noticed pit marks from pebbles and such on the bumper and windsheild, quite a few actually. I was wondering if this happens to other people alot? Its not like I have been driving in the desert or off road I live in los angeles. Allthough it could be that I am used to suv's which of course are higher up.

It's actually quite common for the front bumper to have chips in it from stones kicking up. My last car had quite a few chips and knicks in it from stones kicking up on the front bumper. All bumpers are made from plastic which makes them vulnerable to damage.

I have seen cars with special guards on the front (clear piece of plexiglass) to protect the front of the car from stone & bug damage.

Other than that, try putting a nice coat of wax on the front bumper. It will offer some protection from this type of damage.

The best way to avoid these nicks and dings is to leave more room between you and the guy in front of you. Most drivers insist on riding on the guy in fronts ass then complain when road debris kicks up and causes damage. More space less nicks.

Say no to the bra. Those things will beat your paint up worse than a few stones. Also, 3M makes protective tape kits for the front end, they are pricey but can really help if you are that worried about it. My dad has that setup on his Vette and it has saved the day a few times.

Also, I will agree with jeepgrady there... back off the guy ahead of you. I know sometimes it is unavoidable, but if it is happening so often you are worried about it then perhaps it is time to examine your driving habits.

If any are on the quarterpanels or hood make sure you touch them up with something before they start to rust or you can get to a proper repair. They mostly go down to base metal.

Following closer IMO makes it more likely to get hit, but only less, not zero. I've gotten hit by a rock and cracked a windshield from a truck going the other direction OR a car about a block in front (the only ones around.)
