I have the blade type roof antenna, and I just ordered the Shark Fin, like the models after mine. I read through another post, that the blade unscrews. I was just wondering what the blade does? I turned on the radio without, and the radio works on FM/ the XM works/, the only thing I'm thinking, is that it has something to do with Onstar, or the phone? I bought a cover with a wire in it for attaching to the base of the antenna. I like the looks of the fin, and I bought one i silver to replace the black one.

Shark fin antenna on Gen7 is for OnStar and SXM.

AM/FM is in the rear glass.

It's not impossible that I'm mistaken on that point. There could also be sufficient energy from the satellite that the bare wire can pick it up. Drive around with the fin disconnected and tell us if the stations come and go or if they stay nice and strong.

I did buy a shark fin cover on Amazon. It looks great to me, and it updates my car. I removed blade and left the base. I didn't use the double faced tape included, but used silicone adhesive around the rubber base.
