Safely remove seats with built in airbag

This is my first time having a car with air bags built into the seats.

I've always taken out the front seats when doing a thorough vacuum followed by shampoo of the carpet.

If I'm not mistaken, all that needs to be done is disconnect the battery for up to 30 minutes before disconnecting the wires to the seats.

I'm under the belief that the air bags will not deploy while the key is not on.

i would just disconnect the battery, like you said.

however, once the seat is disconnected, dont turn the key. it will probably set an airbag fault that a dealer will have to clear. (or someone with a tech2).

Here's what we did when I worked for a locksmith and needed to remove the steering wheel airbag to service the ignition tumbler:

1. Disconnect battery
2. Touch both leads together (NO! Not the battery, the cables. ;))
3. Wait at least 15 minutes for SRS to discharge
