Seat Care

4120 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  TMoneyR523
Hello All,

I am the proud owner of a 2009 Malibu 2lt in Black Granite. I really like the car thus far and was wondering what steps I could take to ensure that the cloth-like inserts in the seats do not get stained (I have 3 kids).

Would Scotchguard be a good idea or a no-no?

Thanks very much!

Tell your kids you'll shove them out of the moving car if they get even the smallest stain on the suede.
Not sure about Scotchgaurd although I would probably try it. Best bet if there is any REAL leather involved would be to ask a REAL shoe store owner (the kind who can repair shoes) or a custom upholstery shop. They should be happy to provide expert advice and the correct products. Shiny leather is a LOT different than suede. If I recall properly there is a 'Water Repellent' spray treatment specifically made for suede, like Scotchgaurd...
There is no real leather anywhere except for the steering wheel & shifter knob on 2LT's. The suede is faux suede, just like the Alcantra and Ultrasuede used in higher end vehicles & furniture, and may even be from the same supplier.

That said, for your UltraLux, these instructions are dead on to follow for general care:

As for the rest of the seating around the suede, it's just vinyl which is very easy to keep clean--no leather in sight.
Very nice link 'beach' - printed it for home!
Beach is so smart. We drive twins except mine is a classy black and his is a "*****" LOL

HaH! Couldn't have said it better myself...and the ***** car with its orangey tan UltraLux agrees.
