#10310: Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles-Engine Stall-Reprogram TCM/ECM - (Sep 17, 2010)

Subject: 10310 - Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles - Engine Stall - Reprogram TCM/ECM - Expires with Base Warranty

Models: 2010-2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Equipped with 6 Cylinder Engine (RPO LY7)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This service update includes vehicles in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealership for any reason. It will expire at the end of the involved vehicle's New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

Purpose
This bulletin provides a service procedure to reprogram the powertrain on certain 2010-2011 model year Chevrolet Malibu vehicles equipped with a 6 cylinder engine (RPO LY7). If the vehicle is subjected to an aggressive deceleration with high accessory loads, the engine may stall. The engine can be immediately restarted.

This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.

Vehicles Involved
A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in GM GlobalConnect (US) or attached to the GlobalConnect message (Canada) used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility.

Important: Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the Required Field Actions section in the Global Warranty system. Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

My comment on this reprogram is that it cures more than a deceleration stall.

Mine has died once on me at a stop after some aggressive driving, but my main complaint has always been that when I cold start the vehicle I have to wait at least 5 seconds before I put it into gear or it clunked so hard, you would think the transmission fell out of it.

My second complaint on the 6 speed transmissions can only be described as BUSY. The transmission was always hunting gears at the 35 to 40 mph range. I have a Tahoe with a 6 speed and it's the same way. Busy Busy Busy shifting at lower speeds.

After this update both of the issues that the bulletin doesn't officially address are gone! Now I love my Malibu even more than I did 2 weeks ago. :D

I just skimmed thru the first time I read it. I didn't see the release date. I bought mine on the 20th. I doubt anything would have been done. I'm going to have to call and ask.

I wonder if GM will send me a letter regarding this? I know with my Colorado, they've sent me notices in the past that I've taken to the dealer to get fixed. I don't know if I should wait for that or not?

Just bumping this thread up.

I had brought my car in to just get the all season tires put on and they performed this recall. I too did not get any letters which is why I'm bumping this thread just in case anyone is in the same boat.

I've had the car for almost 18 months and they only did it now.

I thought that I was out of those affected based on the numbers, but Nothern_BU had shown me this thread so I contacted GM just to be safe.and my car is not affected. I guess I'm lucky I'm pretty late in the run.
