Hello! New to the forums as I just purchased my first Chevy - a 2017 Malibu LS. Love it so far and I'm finding tons of great advice on these forums such as what to do about the "dashboard gurgle" after auto-stop engages.

As it's a used car, I expect a certain amount of wear, but there are a few very worn spots on the steering wheel (foam, not leather) that I'd like to patch up. I'd rather not replace it if there's a DIY method of patching where the foam is showing and preventing further wear.

What material does the base steering wheel use? Composite of some kind? Vinyl? I have the fake leather wheel in my 2018 Premier and it scratches easily.
I'm not sure and I can't figure out how to determine what the material is. I'm pretty sure it's not premium leather. In any event, I got the "Coconix Vinyl and Leather Repair Kit" from amazon and, after taking some time to blend the colors to get the right match, I applied a couple of layers to fill in and seal the worn areas. So far, it's holding up nicely. We'll see what happens over time.
