Been doing some research on replacing the factory stereo deck, it appears from what information is out there it can be a pain in the butt as well as damn costly. Anyone that can share any information on the subject would be of a great help. Thanks

i plan on getting this, so the video helped me a lot, now i know i can install it, hopefully lol
You may have added "lol" to your comment but it's still an insult no matter how you deliver it.

I'm not lazy. Take a look at how many posts I've made and how much time I've spent on here helping everyone out. You might also take a look at the How-To's I've done. Lazy? Nah.

And while I don't feel the need to explain myself, I will. A courteous response as a suggestion to a newer member, such as the OP, was to make him aware of the usefulness of the Forum Search feature.

Now, you have only 2 posts at this point. I hope you stick around and contribute in a positive way, like the rest of your post. Posting what I took as a personal insult is no way to win friends. We had a member on here who posted a number of insults. After warning him he was finally banned. Please consider what you post to see if it will be taken the way you mean it or not. Remember, we can't hear what you're thinking - we can only read the words.

Let's move on and make a better impression, okay?

No, not lazy. I don't, well I hope bigmaxsr doesn't feel that way.

@mos he has posted in the thread you have posted a link to, so he was aware of it.

There are/is a lot of info in the modification forum, if searched. Being that bigmaxsr didn't post a specific question, it's hard to know what exactly he wants to discuss, not to mention it may have been discussed already regarding head units, Hu's, and decks. (some keywords)

@ mos, I don't want to sound like I'm jumping down your throat, I'm not.

I'm just trying to help explain that the search function is really quite useful, and if someone mentions to use it, it's because you will most likely find what your looking for.

I know a lot of people like the Navigation type radios, but I feel the Malibu has a pretty nice head unit. It's got a lot of nice features and it's a nice looking head unit - especially at night when it lights up. I like the fact that you get the name of the Artist, Song, etc. on the display. And if you have XM, it allows you to chose the type of music you want to listen to. I also like that it lists the Baseball scores, teams playing, inning played, and # of outs right on the display. I happen to have the Bose Radio, but the head unit is the same on all Malibus. My previous car was a 2007 Caddy CTS and the Malibu head unit is great compared to the one in the Caddy. If anything, I would leave the head unit and swap out the speakers if you're not happy with the sound.

That sir is a nice post, I didn't know the stock HU did that much. I played with the XM for a little while, but only for music. Being that I have over 40 gigs of it, I just used my iPod, most of the time.
I now have more appreciation for what the stock unit is capable of.

i changed my mind on changing out the factory stereo, my amp (Rockford Fosgate 601s, 600 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms) has high inputs on it.

so i wired to the rear deck, i decided to use one 12 instead of the two 10s. i am trying to maximize space but still add bass. so far, it's working out great.

I kept the stock headunit and installed PAL so I could play my iPod. Once I finish some more mods to the exterior and such I'll then look into improving the sound system. I will definitely use threads such as these and others to decide what I want.

I was thinking about changing out my head unit, but I like having the steering wheel mounted audio controls. Also I have the blue tooth setup, and I am not sure if I remove the head unit if that feature will still work. I think I will replace the door speakers at some point, and unless someone knows if the blue tooth will still work when the head unit is removed, I will be keeping the head unit.
