hey everyone, i have an 04 bu classic, and i have the stock cd player without on star installed. the sterio i bought is a pyle single din but has a 5 inch screen and says if i want to play dvd's i need to tap into my parking wire so it senses its in park to play dvd's, ANY IDEA WHERE THIS WIRE IS LOCATED?? also i found out the ignition accessory can be tapped into the ignition harness through the brown wire, and the accessory illumination through the orange wire in that same harness, but that harness is located behind the stereo rite?

thanks so much for any help and any links to diagrams or sites that gives locations is greatly appreciated!!!!

and again sorry if its in front of my face but i spent two days lookin and cant find a thing !!:confused:

I assume you're splicing wires instead of using a proper adapter harness? See the stock radio wiring at http://cid-54465800aad91b49.office.live.com/self.aspx/pub/va187094.pdf.

For the parking brake signal, splice the wire from the unit to the light blue wire connected to the parking brake switch. Duck under the dash and then look at the parking brake pedal assembly.

For power, depending on the input power requirement, you can use one of those add-a-fuse gadget to tap into the left instrument panel fuse block. If you need more amperage, you probably want to run a wire to the battery with an inline fuse. Tapping into the ignition switch harness is inherently dangerous. You don't want your entertainment system to bring down the whole vehicle electronics.

well i was gunna use the base wiring diagram ( not the 40 dollar one that retains the audible ding ) in doing so they give you a red wire with the base wiring harness so you can tap into accessory power, to be honest i might just go into the fuse box to be safe but, the parking break i assume is the emergency break assembly? then look for the blue wire there? thank u so much for your help!

i dont want to seem cheap not buying the full powered 40 dollar wiring harness, just really dont have the money when all the other install items are factored in

That hasn't been called "emergency" brake in ages (it comes in handy when drifting, though).:D The word "cheap" never entered my mind. It's your vehicle and thus you can do as you like. Of course, I'd rather you didn't do something that's dangerous to yourself and others.:)

No, the BCM uses that circuit to tell (sense) when the parking brake is applied. It then turns on the BRAKE indicator (and squawks if you try to drive). I don't see anything especially dangerous in tapping into the circuit.

ohhh.. so those two wires are all i guess i need to tap into that are not included in a basic wiring harness, not the "power harness"......... geez thanks for your help, its so hard to find things about the classics online.. lol

weird other thing im wondering about is the back of my head unit has only one rca for sub out, but i alwayse used two on my amp (red/ white) so thats the next thing im lost with.. idk if i can just use one.. but im afraid it it might cut one sub off ( its a mono block amp though

The signal you need for the HU to detect that you're in Park might not be the parking/emergency brake. It might be the neutral safety switch to indicate that you're not in gear (N and P both allow the engine to be started) or the indicator light for P (if you have a light for each selection).

Just a heads up. Check your HU installation instructions to be sure if you need a positive or negative signal for the detection.

great......... all it says it to wire it to the "earth wire" for parking or else dvd,s wont play. I'm assuming being they used the term earth, that they mean ground???? and it didn't really come with installation instructions, just Manuel with wiring labels, so far i gotta run accessory to fuse box for my ignition accessory and find this earth wire? any ideas if its ground will it generally be the E-break wire or neutral safety switch for the 04 classics?????

and any ideas if it is the neutral safety switch where to locate the wiring harness so i can tap into it.... gosh i hope its by the stereo :(

The correct way to do that is to splice that wire from the unit to the light blue wire connected to the parking brake switch as I've posted previously. I don't see any reason to overanalyze or second guess what obviously is a translation from something written in a foreign language.

If it needs "earth" then that is ground in American. Since that is the signal it's looking for do what SS says and use the switched ground from the p-brake. Test it first to ensure it actually works as designed. Some p-brakes, if not used often enough, get corrosion on the contacts and don't consistently indicate they've been set. All you need to do is set it a few times and watch the light on the dash. If it turns on and off as you set/release the brake then you're good.

finally installed it, by the way the cheapest install kits i found were at walmart, the wiring harness came with a free antenna adapter, and the dash kit all together was 18 dollars, it all installed easily and finding an ignition hot, and a ground to work with the dvd switch was easy. works great. thanks guys!
