Oh boy here I go. Soooo I bought a cert. Pre-owned 17 malibu back in July 2022. lt 90k leather love it. About 2 weeks after buying every time I stopped and took off break the stop start feature would cause car to cut out for like a 10th of a second the wheel would lock and ac and radio would also cut out which was annoying. After a couple weeks more it would stall when stop start activated and would need a jump cause it'd just click click. So I learned when in standard mode where u shift with the buttons stop start is deactivated so when I was coming to a stop I'd shift down and then go back into drive after I took foot off break. But after a couple weeks of that it started stalling out just being in drive and so I started driving as a standard all the Time but when shifting to reverse if I accidentally landed in drive for more than a split second it'd stall and I'd need a jump. Also it started to randomly throughout the day when I'd try to start it just clicking but I'd leave it overnight and it'd start. Then I stop and run in a store for a few minutes and it just clicks. If ur still following God bless. So after a few weeks it needed to be jmpstarted everytime. All of a sudden after driving as a manual for a few weeks I accidentally a couple of times put it in regular drive and it didn't stall and the stop start didn't activate. So I tested it in my neighborhood and it would drive perfectly in drive and the stop start thing doesn't engage anymore. So if you're still following now I have to Jumpstart it every time but other than that it now is perfect and stop start doesn't activate. I bought a nice jumper that's the size and weight of an old cell phone and have been doing this for like 5 6 months now with no other issues. I noticed that someone had at some point taken the whole rug up I assume to try to fix a major electrical issue. But I'm terrified to have someone mess with it just to go through all that bs again. Does anyone out there have any idea what is going on? I have seen online somewhere a while ago someone had the same issues up until it started stalling during the stop start thing but that was where this person left off. I've gotten so used to just quickly hooking up cable jump in car and starts up instantly everytime. Also I've never had breaks this perfectl even in brand new cars I've had breaks always would go on me quick. Can I possibly be doing damage to anything?

Check that connections at battery are tight. If they are, replace battery. In the meantime, you can shift to L then tap the + up to L6 and drive like that all you want. Won't hurt a thing and no auto stop.

Change that battery.
Every time you jump it you put a surge into the system. All those jumpstarts you are taking a risk on system damage not to mention overstressing your alternator all the time and charging system with a bad battery.
Penny wise and dollar foolish.

Any updates to this problem? I have a 2018 Malibu [email protected] changed the battery with AutoZones ‘highest quality’ not even a year ago and now am having this same exact issue. Could it be the alternator? I’ve had high maintenance with my vehicle since purchased [email protected] If anybody has info anything in specific I should/can test before I replace the alternator? Also I use my vehicle for UberEats and other companies so daily driving anywhere from 5-9 hrs at a time. Has always ran well and believe this had a similar problem last year, but also would lock/unlock doors and radio cut out with Steering Reduced message last year when I replaced the battery. Any info greatly appreciated!

What is the model/part number of the currently installed battery?
H6-AGM Duralast Platinum Group Size 48 760 CCA

Also to note ever since I installed this battery I’ve payed closer attention to the Voltage along with everything else to maintain regular operation. That said Battery Voltage according to the Dash always hovered around 13v-14v occasionally coming down to 12.5 on AutoStop. Also I have just checked terminals and everything seems nice and tight with no signs of corrosion. Appreciate your time and help in advance!

I usually don't like AutoZone batteries but see no problem with that particular unit. Specs right where they should be. Voltages are normal. Are you having to jump as much as the OP of the discussion? Could always be a faulty battery. Maybe stop by and have AZ test it and tell them what has been occuring.

Not Currently jumping, however am working as we speak so lot of stop/start engine off and on. I’m noticing that after I come back to the vehicle after about 5 minutes of it being off and starting again that the dash reads 10.9v and jumps back up to 12.5v. In ‘D’ drive I am noticing now it is sitting at 12.5v and goes up in voltage while coasting/braking downhill and coming down to 12.3v-12.5v going uphill.(Not a mechanic but have replaced all kinds Of things early on by reading forums/ videos so have a brief knowledge of lil bit of everything). Although while in L6 the battery sits at 12.7v. Also to note I have a small dash cam running at all times and iPhone cable plugged in as well. Frequently I do wait in the car turned off while charging my phone. I’m thinking it may be the alternator? Anything I can watch out for or check beside pulling it out and having it tested?

Also getting the ‘Service Stabilitrak’ and same voltage drop and jump upon startup even after unplugging dash cam and iPhone cable

Possible it's an alternator but it hasn't been common in gen9 yet. I couldn't recall a single report of alternator failure yet. I doubt it but possible. I did a forum search and found one thread where a 2017 owner was buying a new battery and alternator every six months. Battery from Advance. Regardless, 10.9 is dropping to low. Could be a cell.

Got battery, starter, and alternator all tested with AZ newer testers and everything came back good. Symptoms have disappeared as of now. I Didn’t change a thing. Hoping to catch whatever the problem before it catches me.

UPDATE
Symptoms came back and got it tested again right away. Battery came back as bad. Most likely a cell gone bad. Simple fix. Thank for the help!

Any tips or advice on installing new battery? Or any particular suggestion for a common battery I can easily find?

The OE battery is the ACDelco 48AGM. It is usually about $200-$230 at your dealer parts counter. You can have one from Amazon for 181.98 and they ship free and well packaged. I think o-reillys carries them. Other than that, you can get an Interstate from Costco for 180. That battery quality is average but their warranty is good. No questions asked or testing, just return and swap. Gotta be a Costco member though. Others may have suggestions. I replaced my 2016 with the OE battery. It worked great for 4 years and was working great when I replaced it.

Most of the part store batteries are made by Clarios. That stuff is junk. Some WM batteries are made by East Penn / Deka, they are higher quality and East Penn stuff is my first choice. Depending on location look for an E in serial number on the WM battery.

I had the issue of the split seconds switch off if I was at red light then light turn press gas. I went back to Chevy dealership paid 480 got a main battery switch out never had the problem again. There seems to be a lot more going on with your vehicle but I relate to the stall of a few seconds part.

Friend people just don't get it. It's not the damn battery. Changing the battery just starts the process all over again. When I bought my car I know they put a new battery in it just to make it last long enough for the month warranty. I learned my car has had 5 owners and I can also tell that my whole carpet has been taken up. So that only leaves me to conclude that it's an electrical problem and if 3 different dealerships and 2 other owners couldn't fix it it must be a serious serious problem. I actually came across a supposed Chevy mechanic sight where you talk online directly to expert Chevy mechanics for like 2 dollars a month. Am so desperate I'm willing to try it. I've come across another person online with same issue as us pretty much but had no way of communicating with them it was just old posts I don't even remember where but it was when this problem had just started and what that guy had said literally word for word started happening to me to the point where I could predict what would happen next. But this guy didn't say he was able to resolve it. But there's got to be someone out there who knows what to do. Good luck 🤞

99.9% of the time the problem is the battery. We read these posts routinely here and the owner changes the battery and it is resolved and we never hear back. The owner you quoted had the battery tested and it came back bad. Battery replacement is usually the fix which is why it is always offered as advice.

Your problem, maybe it is different considering 5 owners and evidence of previous electrical issues or flooding or whatever. That could be a buyer error and you are just number 6 in a chain of owners and it is hopeless. I don't recommend the scammy pay for generic advice sites. Need a real dealer tech willing to hunt it down. CPO cars include a 12,000 miles/12 month bumper to bumper warranty. Since this started 2 weeks after purchase you have had or have plenty of time to have it fixed under warranty. Or a new battery that is the right one this time. Or since it is "very rare" as you write just live with it.

I'd check that. Your first post says you bought it certified pre-owned. All CPO cars come with a 12/12000. Either it wasn't CPO or someone misled you into thinking the term was shorter.

Soooo I bought a cert. Pre-owned 17 malibu back in July 2022
