I have a friend whose 6th gen malibu has a stop light continuously on. I changed out the pedal position sensor and the problem continues. As far as I know the brake pedal position sensor is the only component that controls the stoplights besides a fuse. Does any one know if these malibus have a control module for the brake lights, I very much doubt it but I may be wrong. Pls help. Thanx.

Check the bulb socket for a crossed wire, like when inserting the bulb and the wire is misaligned.

If the brake light "switch" on yours (2008+ are Gen7) is like ours, a potentiometer, then the BCM controls the brake lights.

You may also have a malfunctioning MFS. The rear turn (also the brake filament) could be being energized but not the front, resulting in a steady-on condition without flashing.

I'll have to take a look into it again but I'm not sure what MFS stands for. I'll check out the bulbs and sockets and get back to u. Thanks for the advice.

MFS=multifunction switch. It's the stalk with the turn signals, headlights, and dimmer. My old car also had the cruise control on it.
