Hey Guys & Gals,
I'm new to the Malibu forum. Just purchased a 2010 2LT this past weekend, beautiful car. The question I have, is it possible to play music thru the bluetooth system? I've been trying different things but not having any luck.

Congrats on your purchase.

Yes, it will work in theory. I have an aftermarket deck installed and have used bluetooth to play music on that. I pulled the stock stereo soon after taking delivery of my car. I'm assuming your using the stock deck though. What are you using for a Bluetooth device? Your phone? If you are, when you make a phone call does the stereo turn off, this would ensure your connected ok.

The stock system unfortuneately cannot play music via bluetooth. As Screechymon mentions, only certain aftermarket units might be able to do it.

ok could you guys advice of any such aftermarket product?
i really dont care much for streaming audio
i just want to link my phone via bluetooth and be able to answer/make calls, and it would be excellent to do that through the steering wheel special button! (i got LTZ)

If you have LTZ then you have BT already. If it doesn't work then the dealer will probably have to reflash the BCM.

If it works and all you're trying to do is get a different HU then use the forum search. This has been discussed a number of times, and there are members who have installed their own HU's and posted pics/how-to's.

i have LTZ but i dont have bluetooth

but there is no Bluetooth feature available in GCC-spec cars.

is it true that the bluetooth system in the car will not operate unless ur actually living in the states!? coz its part of the OnStar system etc..?!

i thought bluetooth is actually part of the car itself period!?

any idea?

On my '09 I let the OnStar expire after its free year (new models go 6 months free). My BT continued to work after that. I expect the same when I let OnStar expire in a week or so.

The worst that might happen is what happened once in my '09: it may lose the BT pairing each time the key is turned off. All it took was a visit to the dealer for a reflash, under warranty.

So, to directly answer your question, BT is part of the car not part of the OnStar package. All BT does is allow you to use the on-board microphone and the sound system as your hands-free device. The bonus is the steering wheel controls!

I vote neither, car nor onstar. It is a pair of devices synced to each other. Like a cell phone and ear piece. I don't use the stock GM blue tooth, I have a aftermarket head unit that I connect my Bluetooth to. The only reason I bother using it at all is when I'm driving down the highway with my tunes goin' there is no chance of me hearing my phone ring or feeling it vibrate in my pocket. But when it turns my music off I notice.

My BT continues to work after letting my OnStar expire last month.

Yes, my BT has been working without Onstar for a year now. Don't really miss Onstar much except for the occasional driving directions. I do really love the BT though. It's great that it mutes the car audio and you can answer calls via the steering wheel controls. No, it will not stream audio from your phone but the stock player will play MP3 discs. I have a disc with over 150 songs on it!

even if you have a headunit that is able to stream audio from your phone the quality is not that great and if you have a full range system subwoofers and all you will not get the sub range signal. big meh for me.

Huh? Mine seems fine, directly connected to my iPod, or using BT on my iPhone 4, I will say on my old phone it would cut out, almost as if I was listening to a cd that skipped once in a while.

are you streaming audio like from slacker or pandora etc? or are you using it for a phone call

bt-300 bluetooth adapter and a droid x. the sound quality is less than stellar and it does not play through the subwoofers. maybe if it had any factory component in it might but everything factory is gone. I highly doubt thats the issue though.

Oops, we/I was talking about something different.

When I used the phones BT for music, I ment I have a few hundred songs on my phone, and in the past when I've forgot my iPod, I would play the songs on my phone via BT. I have never tried to stream music from Pandora or the like in my car before. Maybe I'll give it a try this weekend and see what happens.

it may just be the radio service that sucks but its not crisp no definition and very low volume. definitely not something that i expect when I have 100 watts behind 2 sets of hertz components.
