Hi everyone, just want to know if there are any owners who have experienced a rattle in the sunroof shade when the shade is in the open position. Not a constant thing, just when going over irregular road surfaces. Any quick fixes? Thanks!

I just got mine repaired last week, I had a TSB for it that I found on this forum because it was under the 3/36000 warranty I was good to go:)

Thanks, I am going in for 10K service and will alert them to the issue and maybe they will take care of it.

Had mine worked on, They said they applied the fix for the TSB, and I'm still having the same trouble - Looks like they applied two BRIGHT RED strips of plastic/two-sided tape to each side of the shade, and its supposed to buffer the rattle.

Mine seems to be coming apart, as in, two "Layers" of the shade and smacking together when I get on even semi-rough road, or drive over a manhole or something...

its an incredibly annoying rattle, and I'm hoping someone can suggest something else, since the TSB didn't fix mine, or they didn't perform it correctly.

Problem is, that the dealer wants in all day (or two) to do it, and doesn't have many loaner cars, and wants to put me on a "wait list" for some crappy 09 LS that I just plain don't want to drive. Why can't those of us who pay for premium options get a car with some premium build quality? You'd think that when they've got LTZs coming down the line, they'd be extra careful... What am I smoking - Its what you get with union labor.

Mostly open - I've toyed with it, and it feels like there's a backer sheet of ABS on particle board, or whatever backs the upholstery of the shade, and they're not sticking together, so when they clack together inside the headliner, all hell breaks loose.

I'm starting to think that the smartie working in the service dept. that worked on my car just stuck that stuff on top, but really should have stuck it BETWEEN the two boards. That would also explain why its some kind of double-sided foam tape, but only one side is stuck down, and the other side still has bright red backing on it, like it still needs to be adhered.

Maybe I should take it to another dealer and have them "interpret" the TSB.

Mine rattles too, but the dealer said they have to take out the head liner to correct it. I really don't think I want them to do that. I'm at 24,000 miles now. Also, I've noticed my dash pad starting to come up near the middle glove box and my rear driver's side door lock doesn't work. Plus there is an annoying odor each time I start the A/C. This is my second new Chevy I purchased that has had numerous issues, the last one was an '03 Trailblazer LTZ. If only my dad didn't work for GM.....

They have to remove the headliner?? Wow, I'll have to think about that, but it is starting to really bug me. Currently 14k on mine and its still well under warranty so I will have to consider it because its really starting to bug me again. Love the tape "fix". The only thing my dealer did was grease the track. (For the record, that didn't make much sense.) I really hate to quote TSBs because I don't want to think that I am a know it all, but it is looking like I will have to do that. Never had the smell from the AC because I always turn it off before shutting the car off, in addition to solving the condensation problem it lessens the load on the engine and electrics at startup.

My issue is as emotional as it is physical - I only get to drive my 'Bu to and from work once a day... No car seats in "daddy's car" means no trips in the evenings when I'm with the kiddos... So if I have to take it in, I'm missing what little time I have with it while it's in the shop... Its a total pain in the a$$ that I am just not willing to go through again.

Plus, I hate the visit to "check it out" followed by the "appointment" to actually get the work done days later. Too many trips... I wish there was a dealer who would let me bring this thing in at 8AM, work from their waiting room, and call me when its ready to come back and drive off. Frustrating. I understand that they're busy, but when they didn't solve it the first time, I want my LTZ to get some priority.

And another thing - This car stickered for approx. 32K... I shouldn't have to wait in line behind Cobalt and Aveo owners - At other dealers, your work is prioritized by the vehicle you're bringing in... Why can't Chevy adopt something like that for those of us who didn't buy the basement model? I expect support for all of these bells and whistles I paid for!!! ;-)

Dude, I hear ya, but at the same time I disagree with some of what you're saying.

If I call the dealership days ahead for an appointment and end up being bumped by a more expensive car, I'm gonna be pissed. And I don't expect to be treated better just because someone else has a Cobalt or Aveo. What they drive doesn't make them less important, and neither does what I drive make me less important.

I worked in a Ford service department for 5 years and never took that stance, nor was I ever asked to. My priorities were set by the severity of the issue and other things, not by the number of letters on the trunk or how big the sticker price was.

You should get priority simply because you called for an appointment, brought it in, and are now inconvenienced by having no car. Expecting the king's treatment because you have an LTZ means that the next guy with a Tahoe LTZ is gonna take your spot because he paid more. And I'll bet you'd scream if that happened. It shouldn't.

But this is the real world, too. Money talks. I've never had a lot of money and I tend to look upon those with swaggering attitudes as pompous. Your posts haven't revealed that attitude in you so I'm guessing you're a pretty sensible guy, a regular Joe, who doesn't like the way you're treated at your dealership. And I wholeheartedly back you up in that. I just don't agree with being put to the head of the line due to trim levels or sticker prices. You're important just because you're their customer. If they'd read the definition and realize that their money comes from each and every one of their customers, they'd likely step up the service level and treat every one of their customers better. And that'd result in you being treated better as well.

Never heard of that in my life. And I am glad GM doesn't do that. As it would be totally unfair. You can't penalize someone who can't afford or doesn't want a more expensive car.

So I can understand now, with some re-reading, how I've come off as a prick...

What I meant was that in other service structures, even other GM dealers I've been to, there were model/family/platform specialists and it meant that you didn't have to wait behind a totally different problem to get service, when what I need is the Epsilon or Malibu guy...

My earlier post referred to simply getting more for my money, and was not intended as a put down to those with a lesser trim level (heck, some of you guys with LS's and "1LT's" have done amazing things to your daily drivers!)

I would however gladly pay a premium at purchase time for some type of Service Priority package, which guaranteed me a rental and/or same-day service for minor issues.

If any of you have ever owned a BMW, this will all seem familiar, including the ability to call in an appointment, and know what to expect when you get there.

My earlier post was a bit of a rant, but I've been in for this sunroof shade twice now, and they fit me in, only to look at it, tell me it's going to be hard, and send me away waiting for their call when they can do the work and provide a loaner car...

I think my challenge is that my local dealer is just WAY too high-volume, and doesn't spend the money to manage that capacity appropriately.

And another thing... Everyone on this forum is extremely insightful, helpful and easy to get along with it seems... I in no way meant to put anyone off, and I hope that I haven't.

Damn dealers and their service depts. Bringing out the worst in me!

Where is this said TSB? I believe my new Malibu has this issue. Only thing wrong with it thought it was in the rear deck but turns out that its in the sun shade. Goes away when you close the shade.
