So did anyone ever find out what the problem is? Cuz my car does it too lol, I already replace temp sensor and was thinking of doing thermostat next but was thinking could that be the problem because it resets it self when I disconnect the battery so I don’t see how that would have anything to do with it

What is your car?

It’s a 2012 Chevy Malibu LT 2.4L 4cyl, 119k miles

What is your car?

It’s a 2012 Chevy Malibu LT 2.4L 4cyl 118k miles, I have had this car for about two weeks now and the temp gauge has never sat right in the middle is always here check picture I posted. And right before it turns off it drops right under that black line for a few minutes then just goes to C. I’m going to replace thermostat today hoping maybe it’s getting stuck open and activating a fail safe.

You replaced the temp sensor, but what brand did you use? If it wasn't AC Delco, it could be DOA - dead on arrival or bad outta the box. If you have a code scanner that can also read live data, watch the temp sensor stream on a graph to see what it does and that might tell you what's going on.

Otherwise, it could be bad wiring at the plug or bad connectors in the plug.

It could also be a failed thermostat.
I don’t think the sensor is bad it’s at the same spot the other one was at before I replaced it, today I disconnected my battery again and the airbag light turned off on my dash for the first time since I got the car before it was always on like the drive side wasn’t working and said service air bag on the dash. The temperature gauge and ac have been working since I did it earlier today normally it would stop working again after about 20 miles of driving on the freeway and I would have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it again for it to start working again. I think it could be the BCM maybe because it works again after the computer rests itself

Has I was having the same problem mine is the 2012 Chevy Malibu LT not sure if the engine is the same I only have one coolant sensor I think, I have the 2.4L 4 cylinder. Me and my friend replaced the sensor first didn’t fix the problem then we replaced the thermostat and it has been working fine replaced it three days ago now and so far temp gauge has been working. Quick and annoying fix disconnect battery and plug it back in, it should work for a little! Ac should blow cold and temp gauge should work till it happens again.
