Hi Everyone,

I get a lot questions about about LED headlights. I decided to post my all of my research and save you so much time when purchasing LED headlight bulbs. As of 2020, the best bulb for Gen 9 Chevy Malibu is SV4 LED bulb. These bulbs provide focused beam pattern that reaches much further down the road. This is the only bulb that provides a beam pattern that matches HIDs.
I have had these for more than a year now. There was no overheating or flickering . Everything fits inside the headlight assembly. You do not need to make holes on you headlight dust cover.

Did you have any lights come on the dash from a voltage difference, resistor, or battery die?

Question: on a 2019-2022 Malibu do the low beams remain on while the high beams are activated? Also, for a 2016-2018 Malibu is the high/low beam function controlled via a voltage change for the single 9005 bulb? Thanks, Pat

No idea on the 2019 lows/highs but I can check.

In 2016-18 there is a solenoid-controlled actuator that controls a shutter. Shutter down on low beam usage, up for full highs.

9005 is a single filament bulb that is usually used in a high beam position. Usually, lows stay on with the highs, turn them on and look at them.
9003 is a dual filament bulb used for both high/low in one bulb. There is no voltage change for high / low. There is for older cars daytime running lights though to dim them slightly for daytime running light usage.
Factory HID have an internal ''shutter'' to change beam high and low.

For anyone that went to a LED set up did you guys have original halogens in them to begin with? I tried the GTR Mini and it was okay but there was a huge dead spot on the road and it honestly looked bad for a 150 dollar bulb. I did change the orientation of the bulb to shoot 3 to 9 as recommended and also tried to play around with different positions and nothing really looked anything close to what I saw from the s.4 above?

I went with an amazon choice for these and they are bright with no dead spots. Maybe give these a shot?

Hello guys, new member here and just got a 2016 malibu premier with the 2.0T. Love the car, but as a lot of us cant stand that 1980s gold headlight color. Want to order LED bulbs ASAP and have read various threads over the past hour and a half about them dating back to 2017. Now that it is April of 2022 are there any new tech bulbs out that are tried and true or are those SV4 still the favorite? Since mine is the 2.0 engine i would not need the extra harness right? Do these current LED offerings cause any signal static / hum sounds in the interior through speakers, radio etc?

Thank you

I have a 2018 Premier with the 2.0T. I went with the SV4. At first I didn't use the anti-flicker harness. I didn't notice anything while driving and it all seemed normal. After about a week I was pulling in the driveway and my wife said the lights were flickering. I had her drive it so I could watch from outside and they were. Its strange I sometimes could really notice it and sometimes not so much. I couldn't tell while driving but it would be insane for oncoming cars. So I installed the antiflicker harness and it fixed it. I notice on some of these threads guys sometime use it sometimes don't. I think some just don't notice it like I didn't when driving. You have to keep in mind what others see.
