Hello everyone I am new here to the forum and thinking about purchasing a brand new 2010 Malibu LTZ in white diamond! My husband works at Chevy so I get GM employee pricing which is awesome!

I currently drive a 2005 Cadillac Escalade and thinking about making the switch to the Malibu.. I have always been a SUV person but I am thinking of getting a car.. fears are of not sitting up high and seeing traffic in front of me and being in a safer car..

I heard that the Malibu is a safe car and the recent body style seems to be well put together and elegant..

How do you like your Malibu do you think I should take the plunge and trade in the cadi for the Malibu??

thanks guys :)

First off, SUVS are by no means safer than cars. They give you a false sense of security. Add to that that the higher center of gravity allows them to tip over much easier. Judging by your comments you will not be happy with this car, or any car. Buy yourself a new SRX or some other SUV, otherwise you'll just throw cash away buying this car and trading it in a year later for an SUV.

If you really want the Malibu it will take some time getting used to the lower seating. However, its not bad at all. In fact its far better for you because you actually have to pay attention more to what is going on around you.

I say get a demo from your husbands work for a few days and do your daily routine with it and decide after that.

Try it out for a few days first..

Really love my malibu but I came from a 2 door coupe. so the added room, power and more options and features was awesome :D

If one of the things that's important to you is to have a really nice ride you may want to consider an Impala instead. It is more like the living room couch on wheels. If you drive a lot of miles and just want smooth, then that's your pick. If you don't drive as much, or if you love to zip and zoom no matter how much you drive, then the Malibu is what you want. The seating is better suited to holding you when cornering, and the suspension is better suited to sudden changes as well.

The "flappy paddle" shifters are more of a gimmick than a useful option, but they're standard if you get the 6-speed automatic. I wouldn't go back to the 4-speed at all. I use them occasionally, but not when I'm trying to wring some performance out of the car. For that, believe it or not, I leave it in D and just drive.

As far as economy goes, look around at some of the threads on this forum. The V6 has a lot more power and nearly the same economy as the 4-banger. I can easily get over 30 mpg on a trip, and that's like having a 4-cylinder humming along. But if I need to maneuver and need the power of the V6, I don't see much of a dent when I do. Either way you go, V6 or I4, you'll get way better mileage than your SUV. And you'll save at the pump.

But like the guys have said above, test it and be honest. You're the one that'll have to live with your decision.

Then, when you buy it (we're all sure you will!), come join our forum. ;)

I wouldn't get the Impala, it is VERY dated compared to the Malibu.

I have a '08 LTZ and love it by the way!

Love my LTZ... It does take some getting used to going from a truck to Car... I switch back and forth between my 3500 Ram pick up to the malibu. Just rent a Bu for a week and see how you like it.

Comparing the Malibu to the Impala is a pretty standard comparison. Most market buyers compare them because they are virtually the same thing for almost everybody however the Malibu is the "newest" of the pair and usually wins hands down when compared. Impala isnt bad at all but for the price I think the Malibu is the better of the two.

Go for it, these are the nicest Malibus that have come off the production line, starting back from 1997, when the Malibu came back as a front wheel drive car.

Make sure you carefully test drive the car. I have a White Diamond 2010 LTZ 4 cyl, A6. It is a gorgeous car, inside and out!!! I am having problems with rough shifting when accelerating at low speeds. Very bad! Other than that I have no regrets.

My 08 Impala LT is quite nice. I also have a 2010 4 cyl. Malibu LTZ. It's hard to say one is better than the other. The Impala transmission shifts MUCH smoother, but the Malibu rides a little better. If I had to choose I think I would pick the Impala for simple driving pleasure. It's hard to pick the Malibu with the transmission issue over the SMOOTH Impala LT.

Impala is still a 4-speed auto though as far as I know.
