I have a 2005 Malibu and I get a thumping noise in the front when I turn in either direction. Not every time I turn, but enough to raise red flags in my mind. What might be wrong?

Had the same car and the same noise came up. Ended up taking to the dealer and they had to replace some bushings in the steering mechanism. My luck was that it was covered under warranty.

Mind you mine was a V6 with the electric power steering.

Yes the problem was solved after the dealer visit. The work must have been done about 2 - 2.5 years ago, and I no longer have the car as it was a lease.
