I started experiencing some trouble a couple of weeks ago with my 2003 Malibu. I was getting onto the highway and began accelerating to about 100. The car started winding out and the rpms would shoot up to 5000 and not shift to a higher gear and lower rpm. I found the only way to get it to shift was to let my foot off the gas and it would shift. Since then I have not had any rapid acceleration. I initially thought it was the tranny so I took it into the shop to have the tranny fluid topped up. Nothing has changed. There was a couple of cold nights where I tried to start the car the next morning and it would barely start and would only start with pumping the gas. The car just wanted to stall out. The engine light was on for several lights so I took it to a partsource to have the code read. The code was an oxygen sensor which I am assuming is in the catalytic cconverter. I have read some posts on here which have indicated that this problem may be caused by a bad EGR valve. I have bought a parts car with a good motor and tranny that I am ready to switch out. If the problem is just a simple fix, it would definitely save me the trouble of doing the engine swap. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I do not want to purchase an EGR valve only to find out that not the issue anyways. Thanks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
