Transmission fluid leak

A couple months ago I had the transmission cooling line replaced because of a leak. Over the last month I had noticed dark spots on the driveway but didn’t see any oil like the first time with the Cooling Line. In the beginning I thought it was one of my kids cars. So I started to park the Malibu in different areas in the driveway and noticed more dark spots but no oil puddles. Yesterday I looked under the Malibu and seen oil residue on the Transmission.. I told myself No F-------Way. So I took a rag and put it on a stick to touch an area that looked wet, sure enough it was Transmission Fluid. Called dealership today for appointment again:mad:. It has been one problem after another with this car. Has anybody else had any Transmission problems? PS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 14,000 + MILES ON IT.

My syncros are shot I can barely get it into 3rd, any suggestion on wheter to rebuild, buy reman, swap a used one, or sell the car?
For your "1981"?

This is a thread about 2008-Up Malibus.
A 1981 Malibu? I can recall what it looked like, even. I suppose another option is to keep the signed title in the glove box and then just walk away wherever/whenever it decides to rest finally.
1981 Malibu, LOL. WOW I have not seen one of those in a long time. In high school I knew of one person that put Mag Wheels on one and beefed-up the car as a hot-rod. Sorry to throw this off Subject to your question, but just wondering if everything is original? You can be surprised what people park and pull out of a garage many years later!

PS. I don,t think we have a tread for a 1981 Malibu! Maybe there is another link you could post questions?
I too have a small leak, which I think if the transmission. I haven't checked the color of the oil, but it seems that the area it's coming from is behind the driver and about one or two feet from the front wheel. Sometimes there is a wet drop on my garage, other times not. I had it checked and the dealer and they said they couldn't find the leak. I have to take it in for my 32000 mi. oil change. I will tell them then. I haven't noticed any shifting problem and am quite satisfied with the car in general. It's a 2011, certified car that had 27000 when I bought it. Always had Honda Accords before. Hope this is not a bad omen?

I thought the same thing after trading my Honda in for the Malibu!

One of my post seems to have disappeared! The entire Transmission Housing had to be replaced on mine! It was so pitted, No seal / sealer was going to correct the issue!

Quality Control Staff must of had a big party the night before or just did not care when mine rolled down the assembly line!

Good Luck!;)
Fliteline1, I can understand the uneasiness you might be experiencing with your situation. Please, let me know how the visit to the dealership goes. Once I get that information, I will know if there are other steps that need to be taken to see about getting this resolved for you.

I took my 2011 Malibu up to my dealer for a "Car Clinic" and they put die in my transmission as they apparently found the leak I've been talking about. I've got about 30,000 and at 32,000 will take it back for an oil change. They will check it then. They also found a cut on my front tire, so the trip was well worth it.
That's great, Fliteline1. It would seem you have a great dealership. Please, let me know how the visit goes when you take it back in. I'm curious as to what they find with the dye.

I took my car in for the fluid dye check yesterday, and they found the anerobic seal was bad between the transmission halves. They are repairing it, and gave me a car to drive, and I'll be picking it up today. So far I'm a happy camper.
I'm very happy to read they're able to get this resolved for you, Flitline1! Please, let me know how things are going with the vehicle after you've had it about a week.

I'm not getting it back until Monday, I hope. They found a bad valve in the fuel tank when they were doing the 30,000 mile fuel system flush. Thanks for the follow-up on my problem Michelle. Fliteline1
@Fliteline1, I'm so sorry for assuming you had your Malibu back from the dealership. I look forward to reading any updates you want to share and it’s a pleasure to be on the forum with you.

Yes, That would be very nice! I had a new service writer, and he did an excellent job communicating with me.

Happy Holidays to you,

I took my car in on Thursday January 3rd for another transmission leak. This time they found the torque converter seal was leaking. Another tear out, and also I am still having trouble filling the fuel tank, so they are replacing the module. I have another rental (4th) one, and hoping they solve the problem.

I hope you mean loaner & not rental. You should not be out-of-pocket for substitute transportation.
I have had both axle tyranny seals done in my 08 and one side a second time due to improper installation.
Will have to check the torque seal next oil change.
