Transmission fluid leak

A couple months ago I had the transmission cooling line replaced because of a leak. Over the last month I had noticed dark spots on the driveway but didn’t see any oil like the first time with the Cooling Line. In the beginning I thought it was one of my kids cars. So I started to park the Malibu in different areas in the driveway and noticed more dark spots but no oil puddles. Yesterday I looked under the Malibu and seen oil residue on the Transmission.. I told myself No F-------Way. So I took a rag and put it on a stick to touch an area that looked wet, sure enough it was Transmission Fluid. Called dealership today for appointment again:mad:. It has been one problem after another with this car. Has anybody else had any Transmission problems? PS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 14,000 + MILES ON IT.

I took my car in on Thursday January 3rd for another transmission leak. This time they found the torque converter seal was leaking. Another tear out, and also I am still having trouble filling the fuel tank, so they are replacing the module. I have another rental (4th) one, and hoping they solve the problem.
I picked up my car today. All is well. I have a very good dealer and they keep me very satisfied. They found a faulty module in the fuel tank and the tranny was fixed with a new seal. So far, it hasn't cost me a cent. I get the loaner from Enterprise, and it's always a GM. I still love my Malibu!
I hope you mean loaner & not rental. You should not be out-of-pocket for substitute transportation.
No, it was a rental car provided by the dealer from Enterprise. It's the fourth time I've been given a rental car, because the work can't be completed in one day. Very nice of them, and gives me some time behind the wheel of other GM cars.

It looks like this is not the end of my transmission leaks. I found the transmission leaking again. I see a drop fall every time I drive it. It's on the bottom of the front plastic cover. I'm taking it back in on Monday to the dealer to see what they say about it. I hope they will find it this time. I wonder if it would be cheaper for them to put in a re-manufactured transmission. I have a friend that's a mechanic at a Honda dealership, and he said they don't even mess with repair of transmissions. They just get a re-man from the factory.
That drop could be leaking from a previous spill that they didn't clean up. Might be worth pulling off the inspection covers (plastic pans) to see if they're clean or dirty.
The parts are only as good as the people installing it!!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll show this to the service people when I take the car back in.

The dealer re-torqued the two bolts on the bottom of the front cover. The large plastic one. That has solved the problem so far. I hope this is the last of my transmission leaking.
Had my 2012 Malibu in for an oil change and asked if they could do a trans. fluid change. Due to the design they could not do the fluid change as they do not have the machine required to do the change. They did inform me that my axle seal was "seeping" and should get it replaced when I get the fluid changed. I called the dealer about doing the fluid change and repair and they could not quote me a price over the phone. I called a national chain repair shop and was given an estimate of about $350 for repair and fluid change. Thanks GM, you suck!!!
The passenger side axle seal on my 06 has been seeping for 2 years without leaving a drop on the driveway. Dropping the pan changes about %70 of the fluid and perhaps that's enough.
1999 chevy malibu transmission cooler hose replacement

I replace the funky gromets on the transaxle and put the new trans cooler lines on. Still have a leak at the gromet to pipe interface.
Very poor design or im an idiot. How can a trans cooler hose pipe( metal) Pierce a cupped grommet style seal and realistically seal a pipe that way?

Why didnt they make the bore threaded to accept the hose?
is there a fix for this?
Im thinkin of tapping the bore and putting a barb fitting in the bore and connecting the transaxle to the cooler hose with this?
If it was out of the car I would weld a fitting on or something

I cant see taking it to a dealer as they usually have the less experienced mech work in dealers ove here in Hawaii

HELP??

I haven't been on this site for awhile, and noticed your message. My problem came to me when the car was relatively new. I bought it certified from my local dealer. It had been in service in the Orlando area and they bought it from an auction in Michigan. It had 27,000 on it when purchased and I had a few problems with it that the dealer took car of immediately. The first and foremost was the leak in the transmission. It took a couple of trips to the dealer, but they found the annaerobic (sp) sealer used on the transmission halves had broken down. They split the transmission, and so far at 43000 mi. no problem. I have had very good luck with my dealer and the problems I had under warranty and am in very good terms with them.

I hope this if not answers your problem, adds to your education on transmission problems with the Malibu. Mine is a 2011 LT2 built right at the beginning of production on 2011's in July of 2010.
hi All,
Well I have had the 1999 chev malibu down for months now. No one seems to be able to help me with it. Last week I tried again to replace the seals . I made a custom seal installer that presses the cup like seal in. It pressed well and flush.

I then installed the tranny hose kit and x 'd my fingers. On start up it just barely seeped from the top seal. I drove it 4 miles and ckd it and no leak!!
I was soo happy . Than went 5 more miles and looked under and wala! Tranny puddle AGAIN!!!!

Im ready to sell the car or what?

I have thought of usuing a 3/8 NPT tap and taping the holes where the cup seals go. Than putting a bronse nipple where its tapped. Than running rubber hose between the nipple and the new allum pipe nittple on the tranny hose kit
Any other ideas?
Anyone ever do these cup seals?

If you can stop metal debris from entering the transmission while tapping the holes for hose fittings, I would go for it.
Hi D Elvis
I concur

NO problem with the chips as the bore is horizontal
What a nitemare,da wifes not to happy drivin my gas hog truck either
aloha and thanks
Dan
Yup, I had this one too! At 98K the Trans cooler lines, both upper and lower had to be replaced.

There pretty much isn't a thread in this forum where I can't say it hasn't happened to me.
The only thing that hasn't been replaced in my BU is the horn.
well it still leaks
Im gonna bite the bullet and tap the bore out to 1/2 npt and then epoxy the bronze nipple to the tapped bore and run hose to the nipples
wish me luck

Last week my 09 Malibu wasn't going over 30 mph I took it to oreilys and was told it was the camshaft actuators and to replace both intake and exhaust solenoids and that'll fix the problem. I replaced them both working fine, I did notice when I come to a complete stop or a turn it hesitates for take off but it doesn't kick hard then it shifts fine. I don't know what it could be. Please if anybody can help me out. Thanks.
Well it seems to be fixed after trying 5 times replacing the grommet seals each time
Gave up and tapped it with 1/2 NPT pipe tap and epoxy coated the threads on a 1/2 npt bronze nipple.Than hose to pipe hose system seem ok
