Trunk handle pull?

Ok, the little pull handle on the trunk is "interesting" and I've read on this forum that some people really like it. But wouldn't it make more sense to have it if the trunk closed itself after you started to pull it down?

Even using the handle, you still have to touch the trunk to close it (unless you can pull down on the nandle hard enough and fast enough and can get your hand out, which I cannot do). The trunk is not so high that you can't reach it when it is wide open (even my 4'11" niece can reach it).

So, why do people like it so much? It would be nice if the trunk did close on its own...

I can get my hand out of the way fast enough and I love it. It would be cool if it closed itself but it doesnt. Its great because our car is black and if we close it by hand we leave hand prints all over the trunk.

Even my wife can do it and she isnt coordinated at all. Just got to pull down on it hard enough to get it going and itll shut.

i agree, i can pull fast enough that it will shut on its own without me touching the lid. i dont like to touch it cause i live out in the dusty country, and finger prints on a dark blue car = uncool.

I agreed that it is not easy to close the trunk by just pulling that leather handle. But it does not hurt to have it extra. Obviously, many people here can use it alone to close the trunk. I tried it too but half of the times I have to touch the trunk. Good exercise for our arms any way

I have little trouble with it. However, my BMW has a little "pocket" in the trunk lid edge that works SO much better.

I have no problem closing the trunk using only the handle most of the time. Sometimes I have to touch the lid, but overall it feels pretty natural. I think the handle helps quite a bit.

I've never had any trouble using the pull handle to close the trunk. I just took it as normal. Besides I always carry a microfiber cloth in the car in case somebody puts their hands on it so if I DID ever close the trunk with my hands I have the cloth.

I have to say, I'm not sure when it happened, but towards the end of the 1st year of having our '08 2LT the trunk hinges/struts loosened up just enough that all it takes is one tug on that strap as you move your hand out of the way, and the lid closes completely and very easily. It wasn't that way initially--it did take the extra outside push--and the '09 I had for 4 months was still firmer, but I quite enjoy this about the '08. Grab it, a little pull, and it's a smooth click shut without touching anything but the strap.

Especially because my G8 now has no strap and is quite a bit stiffer, still, overall to close.

I use the bow tie as a touch point when closing the trunk. Finger prints are not very noticeable there.

I'll have to agree with Beach...I can now pull the handle and easily shut the trunk. When I bought it, no such luck.
