Turn Singals Acting Bipolar

I am currently trying to fix a friend's 01 Malibu. For some reason, the turn signals and hazard lights have been acting up. Some times, they will work just fine. Other times, they will work for a couple seconds and just go out. Then sometimes they wont come on at all. Anybody else come across this problem????
