The instructions in the owner's manual for the 3 channel garage door opener are slightly inaccurate. Also, the new system is a little bit more difficult to program. With the older systems, you simply pointed the original remote at the Universal Remote and it cloned your remote. The garage door remote I use has dip switches, so you have to manually program the Universal Remote to match the dip switch settings. I couldn't even pass the first step due to a misprint in the owner's manual.

The owners manual clearly states hold all 3 buttons at the same time for 3 seconds and release. This puts it into programming mode. I did that several times and it didn't work. There was a phone number in the manual that I called. They told me that's a misprint. You hold all 3 buttons and release immediately. Sure enough, when I did that, it went into programming mode.
They even stayed on the line with me throughout the programming process.

Just one last thing to remember. At the end of the programming process, you hit the button that you want to use to open the garage door. Again, you have to hit it and release it very quickly. I held it for a few seconds and the programming didn't take. I had to reprogram it.

Now it works perfectly. It's a great convenience to have.

Interesting, I used the manual step by step and mine worked no problem for all 3 garage doors. I used the one that you press the button on the back of the actual garage door motor though not the learn off remote one.

Followed the steps in the manual and programed it in less than a minute.

No problems here neither, maybe is just with the 2010 models?

FYI, some newer openers with the newest code hopping will not work. If that is the case they sell for like $25 a add-on adapter to make it work. I had to do this as mine was one of these.

If I was able to get it into programming mode, I would have had no problem. But I followed the instructions from the manual that said to hold all 3 buttons for 3 seconds. The company I spoke to said that's a clear misprint. The buttons must be released immediately, not held for 3 seconds. After I got it into programming mode, I had no problem at all. And I have the remote with the dip switches, so I had to manually program each switch setting. There's no auto learn process with this type of garage door opener.

You sure? I just checked my manual says to just hold the 2 outside buttons. It only says to hold all 3 if you want to delete any old codes.

It depends if you have a rolling code, or a fixed code remote. You push the 2 outside buttons if you have a rolling code. That's where you hit the learn button on the garage door motor and it will automatically program the codes into the universal remote.

I have a fixed code remote. You have to hit all 3 buttons to start the programming process with the fixed code. And it's a little more involved. You have to take the back cover off of the hand held transmitter and look at the switch settings- there are 8 switches on my hand held receiver. Then, you have to manually program each switch settings from the hand held remote into the universal remote. It's not really hard to do, it's just not as easy as programming the rolling code.

This was a great feature for me, because I don't have my own remote for the garage door. I always had to use a key to get into the garage. It's so much more convenient now that I have the universal remote.
