I met a guy on discord who's able to unlock hidden driver menus for GM vehicles, especially 9th gen malibus, remotely. It does require that you have a certain type of OBD2 plug-in. I didn't have one, so he recommended I buy this from Amazon.

He's able to unlock performance and other menus like engine boost, performance lap timers, etc with this tool and it's pretty neat. Some of the information is dependent on whether your car has readouts for certain information, like for my car I don't have an oil temp readout so the performance screen shows oil temp, but since I don't have any data for that it just shows -40. Some of this stuff will actually be really useful for me as I build the car and can monitor more of this info through the driver cluster. If yall want to talk to him and see what he can do (it is dependent on the spec of your car), I've put his contact info below.

Looking at that item on Amazon, I'd guess that he is connecting to that unit with a laptop, tablet, or phone, then sending some commands that allow for display of data on the driver information center (DIC).

I would be curious if you can make such a change and it will be permanent - so you can unplug the OBD dongle and still be able to display the unique data on the DIC.

Just curious what does he charge for this service, I would like the boost gauge unlocked but don't really care much for the other stuff

I'm assuming these menus are available in the camaros but they locked them in the malibus, buttheads lol

I'm interested in this also. If it is hidden as a menu why not reveal it? When I saw that picture of the -12 I didn't understand but here is a nice website discussing boost. Makes great points about grandpa's foolish old saying no replacement for displacement. There sure is. Grandpa's old V8 mustered about 220 horsepower and 0-60 in 10 seconds because it had chump engineering. Toss in that heavy big engine and huge transmission driveshaft and differential you got yourself dump truck bogged down clown car. Way more zippy having the aluminum 2.0 Turbo in a light car zipping around turns. Understanding Turbo Boost

The changes are permanent and once he's finished reprogramming it, you're free to unplug the dongle. I forwarded this post to him, and he can contribute to more in-depth questions, but basically, he's connecting to the app he sends to your phone (which is connected via BT to the dongle) via the web to a specialized app he has that sends the reprogramming commands through.

@18MaliPremier it's more of a reprogramming to include those menus than simply enabling ones already installed (as far as my knowledge goes, he may get into more detail about it).

I've also noticed that the boost gauge in particular is probably from another motor with the same DIC system, as the LTG 2.0T in the Malibu makes more than 12psi of boost, but I'm not sure if the gauge is reading the actual number or if it's just -12 is shown as the min and 12 as the actual max capability.

@Chong69 you'll have to ask him, it likely depends on the model and driver cluster version. Like I mentioned earlier he may try to join the forum and contribute here but a surefire way to reach him would be through the methods I put in my original post.
