My 2006 driver side vanity mirror cover broke. The little spring inside must of snapped, cause when you flip down the sun visor it flops back and forth, and when you flip the cover open it will not stay open.
So I told the dealership to replace it and guess what? GM has discontinued making that sun visor, I would have to buy two new and different visors to match, at a cost of $500 installed. The spring that broke is probably worth 5¢.
Where do you go to get this part on the after market? Or is there another work around?

It is really common for those to break. There use to be a bulletin that addressed the issue, but it was canceled. The mirror itself can be replaced really easily just by popping it, with the cover, out by hand. Search around, I am fairly sure the mirrors are still available since I just did some last month at work. The whole sun visor does not need to be replaced.

Thanks, I kind of thought I was getting bumm advise from the dealer. So when you say they are available do you mean at a auto parts store or a wrecker?

I just put some in at work last month, so the dealer should have them or can order them. I would call around to a couple junk yards and see what you can find, it may be cheaper. Someone else on here might know the part number if you want to search online.
