so i just got my 2010 1LT malibu last week and im loving it. one thing ive noticed, however, is when the headlights come on i get a really high pitch frequency in the car. now, this only happens when the night time lights are on, not day time running lamps (ie automatic mode) and having the stereo on or off doesnt make a difference.

has anybody else noticed this or am i just crazy? i can definitely hear it and its driving me nuts!!!!

I have also heard a some-what high pitch frequency sound with my 08 malibu but not with the light issue being on. I had the headrest DVD players installed by dealer at the time when I bought the vehicle. A couple of times I had heard that type of sound with the headrest dvd's on and with motor being off. Note: "I was standing outside in front of the car". Never really thought much about it and thought it was normal. Is this normal, I don,t know? I'm sure someone on this site would know the reason for this sound.

I've noticed a very high pitched frequency with mine. It's constant the whole time the car is on. If the car is off the frequency is gone. I think mine is coming from the area of the radio/cd player. My boyfriend can never hear it but I can and it's very annoying. I'm taking the car to the dealer this weekend for the squeaky brake pedal issue and I think I'll mention this to them...see if they can hear it too.

I have the same noise with the key in ACC or ON and with the engine off. It seems to be coming from the electronic module mounted on the battery box. I don't hear it inside the car but I can hear it with the hood down.

Mine makes the usual buzzing and clicking noises (Ecotec motors aren't the quietest). I can't say I have noticed anything high pitched. I wonder if these noises are like the ringtones only young people can hear.

I think my car is calling me again?!? ;)

This noise is audible. I'm not a member of the current young generation but my hearing is normal. I can hear it easily. It's a high-pitched whine. Sounds to me like an electronic component that is switching at incredibly high frequencies. Only it's loud enough to hear from outside the car with the hood closed.

I wish mine was only audible outside the car. It's really quite annoying at times.

You would be well served to take it in to your dealership and have someone confirm that the noise exists. The next step is having them diagnosing and correcting it.

My new 2011 LTZ has the same high frequency sound and it is audible easily over a comfortable radio volume setting. I hear it/don't hear it under the following conditions :

Car on/ radio on - hear it

Car off (after turning ignition off but not opening door)/ radio on - do not hear it

Car on/radio off - do not hear it

The sound goes away if I hit the next track on a mp3 cd but returns immediatly. The sound goes away between tracks on a regular store bought cd but returns immediatly. Sound goes away when switching between XM/air channels but returns immediately. It is such that I get a headache if I have the radio on for more than 10 minutes at a time. It does not matter if it is day or night.

Anyone figure out what is causing this? Some people at the dealer can hear it other cannot.
